Now, still a number of months away from the Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver's release date, Empire has shared the first image from the anticipated sequel. The image speaks to Snyder's claims that Part Two is more of a "war movie," with lots of the director's signature action sequences seemingly to come.
Will The Scargiver End The Rebel Moon Saga?
Army of the Dead was a big viewership hit for Netflix, and the company is clearly looking to continue its working relationship with Snyder. Not only has an Army of the Dead 2 been confirmed, but Snyder is now introducing a vast new storytelling realm to explore. The two-part space opera could even be considered a four-part space opera, with Netflix and Snyder having confirmed that R-rated Rebel Moon extended cuts are in the works, with each expected to add at least a whole hour of new footage.
Snyder has previously teased that he's got plenty of ideas for ways to expand his new franchise, with potential for a Rebel Moon 3 and even a prequel TV show centering on Balisarius, the saga's villain. That's in addition to a comic and a podcast, and Snyder has also confirmed that an animated show is on the way, though it's not clear if this is the show about Balisarius that he referenced in an earlier interview.
Snyder recently confirmed that Rebel Moon and Army of the Dead take place in the same universe, meaning there's even more room for expansion.
All of this is to say that Snyder clearly has big plans for the Rebel Moon universe, and it's very likely that Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver will not be the end of the story. Despite the filmmaker's ambitious plans and Netflix's apparent willingness to finance them, however, whether the franchise continues to expand will depend on how well the movies perform for the streamer in of viewership and their ability to drive subscriptions.
