Rebel Moon 1 kicks off Zack Snyder's new sci-fi fantasy universe as Kora (Sofia Boutella) goes on a quest to assemble a team of warriors to defend Veldt against the tyranny of the Imperium. Like many Rebel Moon characters, Jimmy has more to offer than what meets the eye. A JC-1435 unit, Jimmy reveals that he was in service of the Slain King and awaited the prophesied arrival of Princess Issa, who is revealed to be alive in the Rebel Moon 2 ending, setting up Jimmy as a vital heroic character in sequels.

Why Jimmy Wears Antlers At The End Of Rebel Moon Part 1

Jimmy's Antler Headgear Shows His Character Growth And Desire To Protect Veldt

Much of Jimmy's character progression can be easily deduced from context clues. Jimmy lost his sense of purpose and quit fighting after the supposed death of Princess Issa; however, he tells Sam she reminds him of the Princess. Despite not fighting back in self-defense, Jimmy shoots the Imperium captain to save Sam's life, meaning she must have awakened something in him. The antlers, cloak, and staff at the end are all symbols of Veldt to juxtapose the Imperium designs built into his armor.

While Jimmy's voice is provided by Anthony Hopkins, his body is a combination of digital and practical effects.

During their conversation next to the river, Jimmy told Sam, "Our comion, our kindness, our very joy died with that young girl," to which she replied, "I think it lives in you." By wrapping himself in the imagery of Veldt and standing in defense of the farming community, Jimmy isn't only rediscovering his sense of purpose programmed into him as a robot, but also a sense of self-determination, the ability to choose who he stands in defense of and why. This is seen played into effect in Rebel Moon 2 when he saves the day in defense of Veldt.

Rebel Moon's Director Cuts Will Extend Jimmy's Story

Rebel Moon's Director's Cuts Release Sometime In 2024

While Jimmy stays on Veldt and is off-screen until the final moments of Rebel Moon, it's clear he's gone on his own character arc while Kora and Gunnar are off recruiting the other warriors. Since his story isn't relevant to the rest of the story in Rebel Moon - Part 1: A Child of Fire, it was excluded in the PG-13 cut, but Zack Snyder says the longer R-rated cut will explain more about what's going on with Jimmy and why he's dressed up in a cloak and antler helmet at the end of the movie.

According to Snyder, the Rebel Moon director's cuts will feature more of Jimmy discovering his humanity. In addition to the director's cut, Jimmy's arc in Rebel Moon 2 will see him having to "make a choice about how much will he really stand up for the villagers." Seeing Jimmy's story more fleshed out in Rebel Moon 1 would have given the ending tease more context and helped set up the sequel. However, it would have distracted from part 1's team-building premise, which is why the Rebel Moon director's cut will be over three hours long.
