Why The Rebel Moon Push Is a Great Strategy for Netflix (Despite Being Only One Day Earlier)

Despite the original release date of Rebel Moon being only one day later, this is a great strategy, given that Rebel Moon will not be getting a wide theatrical release. By setting a specific time for Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire to drop and marketing it as a “special early release only on Netflix,” the streamer can make the film’s release seem more exclusive and exciting without the cost of putting the film in theaters.

The December 21 release date also gives Rebel Moon one more day to shine before the slate of Christmas films debuts. While Rebel Moon: Part One is Netflix’s big release for December, the theatrical release schedule for Christmas is characteristically large, with both The Color Purple and Ferrari coming on Christmas Day and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom coming on December 22. By releasing Rebel Moon on the 21st, Netflix gives the film one more day to gain traction before competing with these theatrical releases.
