Rebel Moon 3: Zack Snyder's Confirmation, Story & Everything We Know
Zack Snyder's creative partnership with Netflix could continue in Rebel Moon 3, and there are already exciting updates regarding the sci-fi sequel.
Screen Rant interviewed Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver stars Ed Skrein and Fra Fee about their villainous characters. Skrein discussed the physical challenges of the role, emphasizing how Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver features a lot more action from his character, Noble. Fee explained how Balisarius and Noble may both be villains, but Balisarius is very different in what motivates his actions.
How Balisarius' Evil Motivations Compare To Noble's In Rebel Moon Part 2
Skrein is well known for playing very physically demanding roles and Noble is no different. Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver showcases the distinction even more prominently as he fights against the rebels. Skrein discussed the endurance that this type of role required, as well as the mental fortitude.
Ed Skrein: It was such a feat of endurance, and I suppose that's the funny thing two sitting here is the scene that we did together was my last dialogue scene. After that I only had some little bits and that was his first scene. Fra met a broken man. A broken Ed by the time I was there. I hope I was still gracious and polite.
Fra Fee: You were!
Ed Skrein: I was truly a broken man. I don't think I was doing a very good job of hiding it. It was tough. I've done other stuff in my life that was really tough and sporting endurance, things that were really tough. That you have to do so much stuff behind the scenes and require a lot of mental fortitude and willpower and such, but this was tough. I think now you watch Part Two, I think you can feel that.
You're like, Oh, I get why it was so tough. First one, you were like, You were just standing around talking. What was so tough about that? Your Hollywood wimp, but now you can see the physical set pieces that we had to do and such. It was a strain on the body and somewhat a strain on the brain as well, but there's something inside me that needs to keep coming back to do these things. If I wasn't in the movie game, I'd be doing something else that's crazy like this. Anyway, so yeah, I dunno. Blame me
Balisarius is much more manipulative and political in his actions. As the adoptive father of Kora, his actions are not just cold and calculated as he so often has been in the past, but he wants answers about what happened to her. Fee explained how much of Balisarius' motivation wasn't on the page and he worked with Snyder to flesh it out.
Fra Fee: There is certainly a lot to his character that isn't on the page of these two movies, but Zach was able to fill in the blanks for me with such finesse and detail. Which I was incredibly grateful for because I wouldn't have been able to do that myself. In of his evil, I just had to go to the basics of what has motivated him. He is an outsider in this universe.
He's grown up in a planet where presumably everyone speaks with a northern Irish accent and has weaved, manipulated, and orchestrated the sequences of events in his life to systematically go up the ladder. I'm not sure if he ever thought he was aiming for the highest position in the universe, but when he finds himself in the Senate [he] is enjoying the structure and the order of the Motherworld.
When that is threatened, when the king threatens to dismantle that he's having none of it. Those are all pretty sadistic, greedy qualities to him. But they were qualities that I could at least understand. So I found it not too difficult to tap into in that way. He's different from the evil of Noble, which I think is just pure, brutal, sadistic. He loves to see the horror. Balisarius is a bit different. He's more calculating, and it's more of a political thing that's happening with him. But absolutely fun to explore.
