The latest standalone from Red Dead Redemption 2, a move that was surprising to many but indicated an interest in maintaining the service long after RDR2 becomes less popular as a single-player experience.

While there's little crossover in of content between Red Dead Online and GTA Online's Cayo Perico Heist was recently launched and it offered players a first time option to do the content solo, resulting in over half of the game's playerbase taking the opportunity to do so. With solo content appearing to be quite popular among players at the moment, Red Dead Online appears to be adding missions based on that interest - even though the Red Dead Online playerbase has often called for more posse content instead.

The new update, called A New Source of Employment, arrived today and was accompanied by an official Rockstar Newswire blog post detailing what players can expect. The new Red Dead Online solo missions will be accompanied by more content to follow, but for now, three have been added to the game and special rewards have been attached to their completion to celebrate the addition. The three new Red Dead Online missions are: A One Horse Deal, which tasks players with stealing and escaping with a racehorse; Rich Picking, which sees players invade the mansion of a shady politician to steal his ill-gotten gains; and Outrider, which is an escort mission.

All of the missions can be acquired via telegram, and they've got some strong features, including three difficulty levels that will be ramped up with each playthrough of a mission. Rockstar is also giving away special rewards for these missions, with a base of 5,000 Club XP, RDO$100, and a Treasure Map for completing any of the three. A One Horse Deal's completion awards an additional 30% off an Arabian Horse and 2 Special Horse Revivers, while Rich Pickings comes with 3 Lost Jewelry and 3 Family Heirlooms. Finally, Outrider awards an additional 20 Small Game Arrows and 100 Express Revolver Cartridges for its completion.

While Red Dead Online content remains a point of displeasure for some players, Rockstar adding three new RDO solo missions is a strong signal that things may be turning around for the multiplayer title. Rockstar promises more missions are coming, and because of its newly standalone nature, it makes sense bigger things are in store for Red Dead Online in 2021 - with A New Source of Employment the hopeful beginning of a long stretch of meaningful content getting added to the game.
