A new potential leak claims that remaster projects for the original rumors of the GTA 4 remaster getting a particular amount of focus since 2021.
Fans were excited when it was officially announced that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition would be coming to consoles and PC at the end of last year, so much so that the news briefly crashed the developer's website. When the collection debuted a short time later, however, player sentiment soured considerably after it was discovered the remasters were full of unwanted changes as well as a significant number of glitches that took some time to be remedied. Because the project fell extremely short for the majority of the fanbase, there are many who now consider the GTA Trilogy to be Rockstar's worst release in recent memory and it seems that the negative reception might have had further-reaching consequences.
Twitter and gaming leaker TezFunz2 recently claimed that, per an alleged reliable source with knowledge of Rockstar's plans, remasters of Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4 were once planned, but have since been canceled. The projects were reportedly being considered a few years ago and likely meant as follow-ups to the GTA Trilogy. According to TezFunz2, however, the poor reception of the collective remaster may have been the catalyst for why these projects ended up getting shelved.
The existence of both of these potential remakes has never been confirmed by Rockstar, however this alleged leak does fall in line with previous rumors that a RDR remake would follow the GTA Trilogy in a similar style. If true, then it would explain the company's decision to pull the plug on both a Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4 remake, given that its first attempt did not work nearly as well as intended.
As for what Rockstar is currently working on, GTA 6 has been confirmed by the developer. Unfortunately, it seems that fans are now a little cautious given that the studio has backed some questionable content since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 back in 2018. The lack of for Red Dead Online coupled with the poor quality of the GTA Trilogy upon release gives cause for concern that its next title may also fall well short of expectations. However, with GTA 6's development thought to have already lasted for years, fans may not yet need to worry. That said, if the potential leak about the canceled Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4 remasters proves to be false and the projects are still in the works, it's hoped Rockstar will aim high with the finished products.
