A preview for Batman: Legends of Gotham #1 sees Jason Todd uncover what Batman's hiding in the most private area of his hideout.

It isn't uncommon for superheroes to have a secret location that serves as their base of operations. And when it comes to heroic headquarters, none have the infamy of the Batcave. Run out of the caverns underneath Wayne Manor, Bruce Wayne's confidential retreat is one of the most well-kept secrets in the DC Universe. The Batcave's location is generally only disclosed to Batman's most trusted allies due to it containing some of the hero's most well-kept secrets. But there are areas that Bruce keeps even his allies away from, such as Sub-Level 7, an area that serves a purpose known only to Batman.

What Does Red Hood Discover In The Batcave?

However, it looks like one member of the Bat-Family is finally discovering what Bruce has been hiding this whole time in the Batcave’s secret location. In a preview for Batman: Legends of Gotham #1 by Andy Diggle and Karl Mostert, Jason Todd is exploring the Batcave. With the outside world going to hell in Lazarus Planet and Batman preoccupied as a result, Red Hood figures it’s as good a time as any to venture into the mysterious Sub-Level 7. With no one to stop him, Jason enters the private area and sees the scant items within the chamber. Strangely enough, several familiar relics are in Sub-Level 7, such as the animatronic T. rex, giant penny, and oversized Joker playing card, along with Jason Todd's old Robin costume. But unlike the Batcave's souvenirs, nearly every item in this room is under glass.

These sorts of props are some of the most identifiable items fans may recognize from the Batcave. Most of them come from Batman’s old adventures or experiences with villains, except for the Robin costume, which served as a memorial to Jason Todd after his murder. It’s a bit surprising that the most restricted level of the Batcave contains props fans ordinarily see in the hideout’s main area. But considering that most of the items in Sub-Level 7 are under glass, these very well could be the originals, with the ones in the Batcave being replicas.

Why Hide The Batcave's Trophies Out Of Sight?

It’s a bit odd that Batman would go through so much effort to hide his souvenirs. But considering that the Batcave has been broken into before, it’s not that improbable that Bruce would want to keep certain things extra secure. After all, Jason Todd’s Robin costume has served as an evergreen reminder of his greatest failure. Despite his tough veneer, Batman is pretty sentimental, and it’s in-line with his character to want to keep mementos of the past in a safe place. Fans can see more of Red Hood in the Batcave’s private museum in Batman: Legends of Gotham #1, on sale January 31st, 2023.
