Warning: contains a preview of Future State: Gotham #11!
As the Red Hood is aiming to take the new Joker down by teaming up with another ruthless crime-fighter.
Gotham has some very dark days ahead in the Future State timeline. The city has become a nightmarish dystopia after the supposed death of Batman and the Bat-Family is doing everything they can to keep Gotham from ripping itself apart. To make matters worse, a new, much more horrific Joker has arrived to terrorize the city in a even more brutal way than the previous one. No one has as big a chip on their shoulder about clowns in Gotham as Jason Todd, and he's determined to put an end to the Harlequin of Hate's name for good.
DC Comics has revealed information and a striking cover for the Future State: Gotham #11. The solicitation promises more carnage is to come as the Next Joker unleashes his rage upon Gotham. To combat the new threat, Jason Todd will recruit Jace Fox - aka the Next Batman - and brutal "Mask Hunter" Hunter Panic. The three are teaming up to save the life of mob boss Tobias Whale, but its possible Jason may have other plans. The recruitment of Hunter Panic is an interesting choice for Red Hood considering the relationship he had with a related character in another alternate, dystopic Gotham. - The Next Joker's rampage continues! All hell breaks loose in Gotham City as Jason Todd, a.k.a. Peacekeeper Red, enlists the Next Batman and Hunter Panic to battle the Next Joker for the life of...Tobias Whale? Plus, Talia makes a move that will change Nightwing forever!
Hunter Panic is a hero clearly inspired by the similarly named and designed Mother Panic, star of the self-titled comic under the Young Animal imprint launched in 2016. Mother Panic, aka Violet Paige, was a cybernetically-enhanced vigilante who was no fan of Batman or the people fighting alongside him. In a sequel series, Mother Panic A.D., Paige wound up stranded in a futuristic Gotham where Batman was missing and Jason Todd had started a cult. Panic got into a fight with the Red Hood who had adopted the mantle of Batman, but the two settled their differences, recognizing the similarities they shared. Having Red Hood team up with Hunter Panic could potentially be a nod to the limited series, but taking on the Next Joker will no doubt be a much more challenging affair that will require action rather than talking.
Future State: Gotham #11 will be available March 8, physically and digitally. Readers will have to track down a copy if they want to see if Red Hood's latest team-up is enough to stop this powerful new Joker, and whether even Jason Todd's hardcore tactics will be overshadowed by the brutal legacy embodied by Hunter Panic.
