Warning: spoilers ahead for Titans United #6!
Despite his lack of powers, Jason Todd's by the Kryptonian clone).
Previous issues of Titans United have seen Conner struggling with his powers, seeing as how they've been fading to point of disappearing completely from time to time. While it was of course frustrating and concerning for Conner, Jason Todd didn't help things by being antagonistic, exacerbating the two heroes' rivalry. However, Superboy was eventually taken captive by Starfire's evil sister Blackfire who restored Conner's powers while corrupting him into being her servant. Renaming him as Black Zero and giving him a new suit, Conner's first mission was to take down his former team while Blackfire prepared to invade the Earth.
While the other Titans are unable to stop Conner in Titans United #6 from Cavan Scott and Jose Luis, Red Hood decides to call Conner's bluff that he's too far gone and willing to kill his teammates. Daring Superboy to murder him, Jason its that he shares Conner's desire as they both want to prove that they're not pale imitations of their predecessors (Superman and Batman). However, Conner is more like Superman than he realizes and Jason knows it. Despite Superboy having the perfect opportunity to kill Red Hood, he can't go through with it.
Jason saw that Superboy was holding back and showing restraint with the other Titans, a clear sign that the real Conner was still in there despite the work of Blackfire. As such, Red Hood offered himself up to be killed, being the Titan Conner should have had the easiest time killing, considering their rivalry. However, Conner's inability to kill resulted in him coming back to the light, reing the Titans against Blackfire.
While there's still an invasion to be fought, Red Hood's gambit proves just how underrated of a hero he is in the DC Universe. Jason Todd may be a jerk and antagonistic, but he knew exactly how to relate to Superboy and bring him back from the brink of darkness. He was also instantly willing to risk his own life to save Conner and the team, proving that while he may be less logical than his mentor Batman, his emotional insight and all-in mentality give him a unique ability to solve problems no-one else can. At the very least, Red Hood has certainly become the Titans' MVP in this new series, as Superboy once again becomes a vital ally against the alien invasion.
