Warning! Spoilers for Suicide Squad #3 by DC Comics below.

The mysterious Red X is teaming up with the Suicide Squad to help capture a student who has garnered the attention of Amanda Waller. The leader of Task Force X sent the team full of supervillains to capture a speedster known as Bolt, who is currently a student at Titans Academy. However, when Squad's initial attempt at capturing her fails, Red X confronts them and tells the group they need to listen to him.

Red X has recently become comic book canon in the DC Universe, after he made his first full appearance in Future State: Teen Titans, after originally debuting in the Teen Titans animated series. While Robin initially wore the Red X costume as part of an undercover mission, a new character has taken the mask from him. The character's true identity has been yet to be revealed, but Red X has already been seen trying to steal information at Titans Academy.

In the pages of Teen Titans Academy, it's revealed the speedster Bolt has a connection to Amanda Waller, as the Task Force X leader "plucked [her] from the outback and set up" an entire life for her. However, Bolt's freedom has come to an end, as in Suicide Squad #3 by Robbie Thompson, Eduardo Pansica, Julio Ferreira, Marcelo Maiolo, and Wes Abbott, Waller says she wants Bolt on the Suicide Squad or killed. She calls the Squad, led by Peacemaker and Conner Kent, to track the metahuman down and bring Bolt to her. But, the team fails at catching her - leading to a surprise appearance of Red X. He tells them if they want to break into Titans Academy, Waller will need to listen to him.

Red X Suicide Squad

It's not entirely obvious what Red X's play is here. In the previous issue of Titans AcademyPeacemaker and the Suicide Squad are successful in breaking into the superhero school, which was made possible through Red X's assistance. What advantage does he gain by handing over Bolt to Amanda Waller? What does Red X know that everyone else doesn't? Perhaps, he's using the Squad as a distraction to accomplish something else entirely.

Red X teaming up with the Suicide Squad, leading a break-in of Titans Academy, and helping them secure Bolt has to be part of a larger plan. Red X's personal mission is completely unknown at the moment, but it's doubtful he'd help the Suicide Squad and Amanda Waller without gaining something himself. Hopefully, DC Comics fills readers in soon about who Red X is and what he's trying to do because his true intentions right now are anyone's guess. Suicide Squad #3 is in stores now.
