Regular Show’s perfect series finale, it might be difficult to accept that a new project is happening. However, not only is Regular Show one of Cartoon Network’s most important IPs, but the series is also packed with great characters that could be revisited in some way.

It's unclear what this new Regular Show will be, although new series will be called Regular Show: The Lost Case, suggesting that it could be made of standalone stories set at any point in the original show’s timeline.

Regular Show’s Best Episodes Are Standalone Stories

Regular Show Doesn’t Need To Worry About Continuity

Regular Show has a couple of episodes that can be considered “plot relevant,” as in episodes after which the status quo of the show changes. This includes, for example, whenever Mordecai’s love life is the focus of an episode. Thomas' true nature and Rigby going back to high school are other examples of “essential” Regular Show moments that affected the show’s canon. That is not to mention the events of Regular Show season 7 onward, during which most episodes are part of a larger story involving Pops’ secret origins and the fate of existence.

However, as fun as Regular Show’s final two seasons were, most of the series' best episodes are the standalone ones. No one was tuning in on Regular Show for continuity or overarching stories but rather for the bizarre, unpredictable adventures that Mordecai, Rigby, and the rest of the crew would get themselves into. Regular Show’s anthology episodes, particularly the Halloween ones, were also among the show’s best. Most Regular Show episodes work for someone who has never watched the series or doesn’t know which season they are watching. This is why an anthology reboot would be a great idea.

How The Lost Tapes Can Be The Perfect Regular Show Reboot

Regular Show’s Reboot Should Be A Collection Of Untold Stories

What exactly Regular Show’s new series will be remains to be announced, and even the “Lost Tapes” title has yet to be confirmed. That said, the best and most logical approach for a new Regular Show would be for it to be a collection of untold stories – “lost tapes” – set before the crew went to space. The new series wouldn’t have to worry too much about timeline or continuity, focusing instead on telling the best, most hilarious stories possible with these characters.

Regular Show has had six Halloween-themed episodes. Known as “Terror Tales of the Park,” each anthology episode is packed with spooky stories.

Countless stories can be told before the events of season 7, including adventures set before Regular Show’s pilot episode. An anthology show could also focus on characters that never got to shine in the original show, such as Hi Five Ghost and Eileen, or even introduce new characters. Most Regular Show episodes were standalone stories anyway, and there’s no reason to change it now, even if for a brand-new series. Regular Show can’t really look into the future after how season 8 ended, but looking into the past is always an option.
