  • Season 4 is expected to release in 2025 and will likely cover the most controversial arc of the series.
  • Rent-a-Girlfriend's popularity in Japan and its manga's success contribute to anime's renewal despite its criticisms.

The ever-so-controversial romance comedy anime Rent-a-Girlfriend has been confirmed for season four. Regardless of the mixed opinions of the anime, Rent-a-Girlfriend has been adapted into three seasons so far, with season 3 having aired in September of last year and it seems the series is returning yet again whether fans like it or not.

According to a post on X by @animetv_jp, Rent-a-Girlfriend has officially been renewed for season four and is expected to release in 2025. The announcement was accompanied by a new teaser visual illustrated by Reiji Miyajima featuring Kazuya and Chizuru dressed in tropical printed clothing, as well as a trailer posted to DMM Pictures' official YouTube channel.

Judging by the trailer and the new teaser visual, the season will most likely be adapting the series' most controversial one yet, adapting the Vacation Trip Arc. The season will also likely be produced by TMS Entertainment and DMM Pictures just like the previous three seasons seeing as the trailer was posted on the latter's YouTube.

Rent-a-Girlfriend Gets Renewed For Season 4 Against All Odds

Based on the Manga Written and Illustrated by Reiji Miyajima

As with many harem anime, Rent-a-Girlfriend has acquired quite a negative reputation with Western audiences, with fans highly divided on whether they like the series or hate it, and its protagonist. Yet, Rent-a-Girlfriend's anime continues to be renewed year after year since it first aired in July 2020 and a major reason is the series is quite popular in Japan.

Even the manga is quite successful, and according to a tweet by the author Reiji Miyajima back in March 2024, Rent-a-Girlfriend has printed over 13 million copies. As such, it only makes sense that Rent-a-Girlfriend's anime is returning despite its mixed reception.
