Resident Alien is a Syfy comedy series based on the eponymous comic series by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, published by Dark Horse between 2012 and 2018. The central storyline follows an extra-terrestrial pilot who assumes a new identity on Earth and awkwardly tries to assimilate. Set in Patience, Colorado, Resident Alien revolves around a murder mystery in a small community. The local authorities are highly suspicious of Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle, who is indeed an alien but may not necessarily be a killer.

As Sheriff Mike Thompson and Deputy Liz Baker investigate a local man's death, Dr. Harry tries to cover up the fact that he's actually Captain Hah Re, which allows for some dry humor and black comedy. Given that Resident Alien has a Fargo-like vibe, it makes sense that SyFy enlisted one of the cast from the popular FX series. And since the titular role requires some spectacular voice acting, a Star Wars alum was cast to portray the socially-awkward intergalactic doctor.
