Summary
- A mod recreates the classic 'Fixed Camera' perspective in the Resident Evil 2 remake, adding nostalgic tension.
- With over 1700 different camera angles used, the also mod changes core gameplay elements like auto-aim.
- Resident Evil 2's flexibility allows modders to create unique, funny alterations like Thomas The Tank Engine.
While the 2019 remake of The Resident Evil remake did away with this feature and while most agree it's an improvement, there's something to be said for how moving the camera reduces the amount of tension.
Thanks to alphaZomega over on Nexus Mods (per GamesRadar+), one industrious Resident Evil 2 fan is working on a mod that will allow players to experience the remake with a Fixed Camera, closer recreating the presentation of the 1998 classic.
The creator specifies that they have incorporated over 1700 different perspectives through the game's campaigns; whenever either Claire or Leon moves into a new location, the mod automatically switches to a different cinematic angle. The best part is that alphaZomega built the mod to work without tank controls, the frustrating movement system used in the first few Resident Evil games.

How Resident Evil 2 Remake's Mr. X Works (& How It Could Impact RE8)
Resident Evil 2 remake's Mr. X, despite what many initially believed, is not cheating to scare and kill the player. Here's how his AI works offscreen.
Building This RE 2 Mod Required Some Extra Changes
The inclusion of a fixed camera may not seem like much of a change but it actually fundamentally alters many other core components of Resident Evil 2. To compensate, alphaZomega has added features like an auto-aim option since players can't use an accurate crosshair and every weapon can now be equipped with a laser sight to make target prioritization more efficient. Items that may be obscured by the new angles have also been rehashed to give off a visual indicator when players are close enough to pick them up.
Resident Evil 2 Is A Triumph For Modders
While Resident Evil may not sound like a franchise that's as synonymous with the modding scene as something like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Capcom's RE Engine is remarkably flexible. Ever since the franchise jumped to the "Reach for the Moon Engine" with Resident Evil 7, modders have created a the sinister Mr. X, turning him into silly alternatives like Darth Vader or Thomas The Tank Engine.
