While Resident Evil has a returning cast of characters players see grow across decades and multiple games, there are some notable exceptions. Resident Evil 4's remake is one of these, bringing back the franchise's most beloved character, Leon, alongside other favorites such as Ada. Both their stories continue after the game as well, but unlike these two, there is someone else who escapes Resident Evil 4 alive who we never see again. Ashley appears only in Resident Evil 4 (and RE4 Remake) but there are a few clues about what her future holds.
In Resident Evil 4, the president's daughter, Ashley Graham, is kidnapped while on vacation. This kicks off the events of the game as Leon S. Kennedy is the agent sent to rescue Ashley, unaware of the work of Los Illuminados and the presence of Las Plagas in the area. Players might already know since the original RE4 came out in 2005 that Leon continues to work as an agent for the United States in the future, but there isn't as clear of a career path shown for Ashley in the series.
Ashley's Dream For The Future In Resident Evil 4 Remake
In the remake of Resident Evil 4, Ashley received changes, making her more independent both during gameplay, and in her personality as she expresses her desire to become an agent like Leon and help the United States. While this is a possibility, her father, the president, could easily be against the idea, especially after Ashley is kidnapped and injected by Las Plagas. However, Ashley could also fill a role similar to Hunnigan. She's shown her intelligence and ability to think quickly, and it would allow her to help the country and other agents like Leon without having to be in the middle of the action.
The Fate Of Resident Evil Characters Similar To Ashley
Sherry Birkin and Manuela Hidalgo from Resident Evil 2 and RE: The Darkside Chronicles, like Ashley, were infected with a virus and survived due to treatment or a vaccine, and they were both rescued by Leon as well. Both Sherry and Manuela ended up in custody of the United States Government. What happens to Manuela after is unknown, but Sherry later works for the government, much like Leon. Therefore, it might not be surprising if Ashley did become an employee of the government after the events of Resident Evil 4 since there's a precedent for similar characters following that path.
The backstory of characters like Luis in Resident Evil 4 remake is expanded upon, but the future for Ashley, who makes it out alive, didn't receive more details in the 2023 version of the game. Depending on how much is changed in RE5 and RE6, if they receive remakes, it could be possible to come across Ashley again if she does end up working for the government, particularly in any department handling viruses. While it doesn't affect the story to not know what's next for Ashley, it could have been a nice addition to learn about her future after the events of Resident Evil 4.
