As terrifying as its original version was, the remake of scrapped designs from the original Resident Evil 4. Enemies are, on the whole, smarter, tougher, and faster than ever before.
The Resident Evil 4 Remake has some of the goriest visuals in the Resident Evil series to date, and its new enemy types fit right in. The more realistically writhing tentacles that sprout from ganados' heads, the enormous, gnashing teeth of the relentless wolves, the leathery, wrinkled skin of the gigantes - all make for a more viscerally terrifying experience. One updated enemy, however, does more than most to get players' adrenaline pumping.
The Resident Evil 4 Remake's Regenerators Are Scarier Than Ever
Regeneradors - also known as Regenerators - are even more terrifying in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Their glowing eyes, sharp fangs, and ability to survive multiple dismemberments always made them scary, but Regenerators’ significant upgrades in the remake make them worse than ever. Where they could once only saunter slowly toward Leon, Regenerators move far more quickly in the remake. They're faster even after losing their legs, as they'll simply throw themselves forward. Regenerators can stretch out their arms from a great distance for a grab attack, or sprout damaging spikes if Leon gets too close. It's not just the greater graphical fidelity that makes the Regenerators scarier - it's all the new ways they have to hurt the player.
Players Likely Won't Know How To Kill Regenerators In The Resident Evil 4 Remake
To make matters worse, most players won't know how to take down Regenerators the first time they encounter them in the remake of Resident Evil 4. Simply shooting repeatedly isn't ideal, even with some of Resident Evil 4's best fully upgraded weapons - players will have to destroy all the parasites in a Regenerator in order to take them down. However, these parasites are at first invisible; it's only once players find the biosensor scope that they'll be able to see them. The biosensor scope is found during Chapter 13, in a small room just north of the Incubation Lab. Players can access this shortly after their first encounters with Regenerators, so they won't be in the dark too long.
The Resident Evil 4 remake regularly introduces new enemy types - or new iterations of old ones - in order to keep gameplay fresh and challenging. The Molotov-tossing ganados, the hardy bull-headed brutes, the impervious Father Méndez - all exist not only to give the player a scare, but also to force them to think quickly and creatively. The Regenerators are just another entry in a long line of innovative and horrifying enemies in the remake of Resident Evil 4.
