Fans believe that Sony could be teasing a PlayStation Showcase, and includes many nods to existing and PlayStation games. A dissection of the two-minute video has revealed what seems to be a reference to Resident Evil 4, which could suggest the game is being remade for PS5.

The PlayStation Showcase event gave fans a look at the future of PS5, with trailers, announcements, and new gameplay footage. While a few new games were revealed, including Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Marvel's Wolverine, the event also highlighted a number of remakes and remasters coming soon. Alan Wake Remastered is headed to the console later this year, while a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was also confirmed. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves, a remastered collection of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, is yet another remaster revealed during the livestream. With so many remakes and remasters planned for PS5, a new Resident Evil 4 might not be out of the question.

Reddit CoronaBeer51 spotted what appears to be the Las Plagas parasite symbol within the PlayStation advert, seen at around the 1:33 mark in the standalone video (via ComicBook). The Las Plagas symbol, also known as the Los Iluminados symbol, is seen throughout Resident Evil 4 and can be briefly glimpsed to the right of the doorway as one of many video game Easter eggs found within the advert. However, as the Reddit notes, Resident Evil 4 isn't available on PlayStation 5, and isn't a Sony-exclusive game. This led them to theorize that the symbol is in fact hinting at a new RE 4 remake, which they believe could be announced at the next PlayStation event.

Rumors of a Resident Evil 4 remake have been rife for some time. The game is widely considered to be the strongest in the RE franchise, and has released across multiple platforms since it first launched. From PlayStation 2, Nintendo Wii, Xbox One, and even mobile, Resident Evil 4 is undoubtedly one of Capcom's biggest games, and it doesn't seem likely that the publisher would want the horror hit to miss a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S release. While a new-gen version of the classic title hasn't yet been announced, the game is getting a VR version for Oculus Quest 2 sometime this year. As such, many believe it's simply a matter of time before Resident Evil 4 is fully remade for new-gen consoles and PC.

While a PlayStation event could reveal a remake of Resident Evil 4 in the future, it's worth noting that Capcom hosted its own specific Resident Evil livestreams in the run-up to the launch of Resident Evil Village. It's possible that, if the game is real, Capcom could be planning something of its own. Whether or not the title could be a PS5 exclusive remains to be seen, but as the remake hasn't yet been confirmed, fans are left to speculate on the rumors.
