A fan-made demake of Resident Evil 6 turns the fast-paced co-op shooter back into a PlayStation 1 survival horror adventure. Released in 2012, the sixth numbered entry in Capcom's terrifying franchise largely left its survival horror roots behind in favor of bombastic multiplayer third-person shooter gameplay. The game has only become more infamous over time, often being regarded as the series' worst entry, but a fan demake shows what the project could have been.

Talented YouTuber PS1 game demake of Resident Evil 6 that takes the action-packed shooter back to the franchise's roots. The video recreates a scene early in the game where series protagonist Leon S. Kennedy and his partner Helena Harper fight zombies across an outdoor campus. While the original game puts players in an over-the-shoulder perspective, Rustic Games BR returns Resident Evil 6 to its fixed camera and tank control roots. The co-op gameplay is still preserved, however, with Helena and Leon working as a team to dispatch the undead hordes.

Rustic Games BR has a history of similar projects, with the talented content creator previously rendering other modern Resident Evil games in the franchise's classic style. For example, a Resident Evil 4 PS1 demake created by the YouTuber reverted the series' very first third-person game back into a retro title with tank controls and pixelated graphics. This project was quite extensive, with videos reimagining both the El Gigante boss fight and close-quarters scuffles with regular Los Ganados. Recently Rustic Games BR also created a PS1 demake of Resident Evil 5, which sees Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar battle the Uroboros Test Subject in old-school style.

The original Resident Evil games are considered the first successful installments in the survival horror genre, so games and content creators alike have paid homage to the series in the past. For example, one clever fan project is a PlayStation demake of Dead Space that reflects the sci-fi horror game's heavy Resident Evil influences. The 2008 classic was heavily inspired by Resident Evil 4, specifically that game's third-person camera angle and emphasis on targeting enemy weak points. To bring this influence full circle, a developer is now remaking Dead Space in the style of the older fixed-camera Resident Evil titles.

While Resident Evil 6 is widely considered to be the series' weakest entry, there are still some fun survival horror setpieces hidden in the non-stop action game. Rustic Games BR has now demade RE6 in the style of its earliest predecessors, showing what the co-op game could have been if it released in an earlier era. The PlayStation 1 demake sadly isn't playable, but it does give fans an idea of the potential that Resident Evil 6 had on the PS1.
