New official art released for Capcom’s most successful games of all time, there is no doubt that this next title in the series will draw in numerous players when it is released next year.

The character of Chris Redfield is one of the most beloved in the Resident Evil franchise. Making his debut all the way back in the original Resident Evil game alongside Jill Valentine and having starred in his own game in Resident Evil 5, Chris most recently saved Ethan Winters after the traumatic events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. However, Ethan’s savior will no doubt have gone down in Ethan’s estimations, as Chris was shown to shoot and kill Ethan’s wife Mia in the Resident Evil Village reveal trailer earlier this year.

And now another element has been added to the mysterious nature of the plot that surrounds Resident Evil Village, as dark and ominous tones of the trailers, the art is a moody mix of grey, white and blue hues with small eye-catching snippets of color. Most striking of all though, is Chris Redfield's face, as it's not as fans have ever seen him before. In this bold depiction, Chris can be seen as being half-human and half-monster, alluding to possible plot and gameplay developments surrounding his appearance in the entry.

It is not clear what this artwork means for Resident Evil Village. Some believe that werewolves are going to be a key part of the eerie plot. Other fans have gone one step further, suggesting that this morphing representation alludes to the fact that Chris himself will be a werewolf in the release. So far, there are no definitive answers, so this could be purely symbolic of his internal character transformation or a new form for Redfield caused by some fantastical strain of the T-Virus.

There may not be much more of a wait until fans of the Resident Evil series find out additional information about the PlayStation 5 release. Capcom recently had a massive data breach and, among other things, a release date for Resident Evil Village was revealed in the hack. While nothing official has been confirmed (or denied) by Capcom, it currently looks as though an April launch is in the works for Resident Evil Village, with a demo being made available before that. Chris Redfield may not remain being a wolf in the shadows for much longer.
