An annual report for 2021 notes that RE Village's previously announced DLC expansion, which the publisher teased several months ago during E3. Since the content had just entered development at the time of the E3 unveiling, Capcom had nothing to say about what players should expect.
A sequel to the acclaimed villainous Lady Dimitrescu is involved in any way, shape, or form. (Even if that means the return of her grotesquely monstrous form.)
The Development Strategy section of its latest annual report briefly mentions Monster Hunter Rise. What the freebies may entail is not yet known, given that the publisher's report offers nothing in the way of specifics. At the very least, though, it seems safe to assume the newly teased free DLC will release separately from the expansion announced earlier this summer.
That Capcom aims to further expand upon Resident Evil Village's content offerings with free DLC seems a shrewd move. This particular entry is already a runaway success, with RE Village managing to move 4.5 million units after approximately two months on the market. Capcom's latest update on the matter points to a sales total of five million, meaning the sequel is even outselling Resident Evil 2 Remake.
In of what the freebies may include, smaller extras such as new game modes, additional weapons, and other items do not seem beyond the realm of possibility. The Mercenaries mode seems ripe for free content as well; Capcom could add more stages, boost the difficulty, or even introduce enemies from past Resident Evil titles to escalate the challenge further. For now, there's no telling what the publisher may have up its sleeve in this regard.
Resident Evil Village is available now across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
