Resident Evil Village is the eighth mainline installment in the Resident Evil franchise from publisher and developer Capcom. After taking home several Game of the Year awards, Resident Evil Village becomes even more accessible to players with an exciting new release on iOS devices running iOS/iPadOS 17.0.0 or later.

This is not an altered, shorter version of the game created for mobile. This is the entirety of the must-play game Resident Evil Village, the same as the one released on console in 2021. However, not all devices meeting the system requirements mentioned previously will be compatible with the game. To ensure the best possible experience, it will only be available to those with the iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, as well as Apple s with an iPad Air or Pro with the M1 or M2 chip.

The Peak of Convenient Gaming

While it is unfortunate that only later device models have access to Resident Evil Village, many of the compatible devices are a couple of years old, meaning most Apple s that upgrade even periodically are likely to have at least one compatible device, making it fairly accessible. There are plenty of mobile games worth playing, but there’s often an invisible line between what is considered a mobile game and a fully-fledged console or PC game. In this case, Capcom is shattering the wall between mobile and console gaming.

The visuals of Resident Evil Village are stunning, crisp, and easily comparable to gameplay on most modern consoles, and the lag is virtually non-existent. Players have no need to stress about quick time events or being hunted by enemies, as responsiveness will virtually mirror the player’s reaction time. Loading screens for this game are almost seamless, too, so the experience is a smooth one.

Comparable To Console Gaming

Despite Resident Evil Village being compatible with the latest iPhone model, this is the only device that likely wouldn’t be recommended, even on low graphic settings. The iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, though powerful, is still in the early stages of being able to handle something of this size. Just because it technically can run it, doesn’t mean that it should. Since this is such a heavily detailed game, there are likely to be things lost in the experience by playing on such a small screen. There is the option of casting, which is also an iPad option, but note that this will create a slight but noticeable input delay.

iPads with the M2 chip are a different story. The screens, though still smaller than the average PC monitor, are large enough that many details can be appreciated and players aren’t as likely to strain their eyes. Additionally, the flexibility of being able to travel with Resident Evil Village (as long as internet speeds are optimal) is a major appealing factor.

Final Thoughts and Rating

Resident Evil Village for iOS is breaking ground in the world of mobile gaming. The experience is both seamless and visually impressive with little to complain about. Additionally, though smaller screens aren’t for everyone when it comes to in-depth narrative and action-packed gaming, there is an argument to be made purely for the sake of convenience at this quality level.

Whether you’re a player looking to return and re-experience Resident Evil Village or a new player who may not have had the opportunity to play before, this is a great way to jump in. Capcom has beautifully brought the entirety of Resident Evil Village to mobile and blown expectations out of the water.
