Rick and Morty have left a lot of bodies in their wake, with most dead characters staying dead – not counting alternate dimensional variants – yet, when Jerry summons a hard-boiled detective Mr. Meeseeks to find the interdimensional cable remote, a character readers never thought they'd see again is coming back as a ghost: Tammy.

Rick and Morty: Meeseeks P.I. #1 – written and illustrated by Fred C. Stresing – finds Detective Meeseeks relentlessly pursuing his case, and everyone's a suspect, including dead people. In an ad for the trade paperback, inside Rick and Morty 10th Anniversary Special #1, a cavalcade of past characters are under suspicion, including the ghost of Tammy Guterman. It may just be a sign of how hard this Meeseeks will work on the case.

Or, given what a devoted Galactic Federation agent Tammy was, it may mean that not even death can stop her from eliminating Rick and all the rebels.

Tammy Returns From The Dead In A Shocking Twist From The "Rick & Morty" Comics

Rick and Morty: Meeseeks P.I. #1 – Written & Illustrated By Fred C. Stresing; Available This September From Oni Press

Rick killed Tammy while she was hunting down Space Beth, and she seemingly stayed dead. However, given what a persistent villain she was...it makes sense that she wouldn't stay down.

Tammy was first introduced as a high school friend of Rick's granddaughter, Summer Smith. In the season 1 finale, it was revealed she had hooked up with Rick's best friend, Birdperson, and skipped school to fly away with him back to his home planet. In the season 2 finale, Rick, Morty, and the rest of the family come to Tammy and Birdperson's wedding, as do the rest of Birdperson's rebel friends. There, Tammy reveals herself to be a deep cover Galactic Federation agent, and the wedding is a trap to kill their enemies. Rick escapes, but Birdperson is killed by his love.

Tammy's first appearance, albeit in a different dimension, was in the same episode that introduced Meeseeks. This could perhaps explain why Detective Meeseeks is so tied to her.

Rick killed Tammy while she was hunting down Space Beth, and she seemingly stayed dead. However, given what a persistent villain she was, making important appearances in three different season finales, it makes sense that she wouldn't stay down. If she's stuck as a ghost and can no longer hurt the Smith-Sanchez family, her plans may include the next best thing: stealing their most prized possession, the interdimensional cable remote. Alternately, the Galactic Federation resurrected Birdperson as a cyborg devoted to their cause; there's no reason they couldn't have done the same to Tammy as she was the perfect asset.

Meeseeks P.I. is in bad shape, so he hopefully solves the case quickly, even if it's a dead Rick and Morty character.

Solving This Case Would Fulfill Detective Meeseeks' Short, Miserable Existence

Meeseek Life Is Pain

Mr Meeseekses fighting each other in Rick and Morty

The life of a Meeseeks is pain. The Rick and Morty 10th Anniversary Special revealed that if they're not summoned, Meeseeks die inside the box. When they are summoned, they want to accomplish their task as quickly as possible, so that they may mercifully blink out of existence. When one survives too long, it goes bad, as seen in Rick and Morty: Crisis on C-137 where one becomes a villain, set on uniting all Rick's enemies to kill him. Meeseeks P.I. is in bad shape, so he hopefully solves the case quickly, even if it's a dead Rick and Morty character.

Rick and Morty: Meeseeks P.I. will be available September 3, 2024 from Oni Press.
