Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Rick and Morty season 8, episode 1, "Summer of All Fears".After enduring a mentally exhausting story, Summer was back to normal in Rick and Morty teased an Easter episode alongside the return of the Citadel, I didn't expect such a heavy premiere, as the premise showcased Rick's flaws while his grandchildren had to overcome some real mental battles.
The plot focuses on Rick punishing Summer and Morty for failing to return his phone charger by putting them in a simulation all about why phone charger theft is bad. However, after falling asleep, his grandchildren spent years in the matrix, where Morty went to war while Summer became a tech genius. This made it extremely difficult for them to adjust to normal life as teenagers given everything they'd experienced, and while the title of Rick and Morty season 8's opening episode provided some clues that it would contain a stressful story, I certainly didn't anticipate the post-credits twist.
Summer & Beth's Pottery Class Was Actually Run By Vampires The Entire Time
The Post-Credits Scene Features Beth Fighting Off The Rest Of The Class
Rick and Morty's quirky nature suggests we should always expect the unexpected, but "Summer of All Fears" had a post-credits scene very few viewers could have seen coming. After Beth and Summer had a disagreement, the latter left home and ed a pottery class in Zante Fe in an attempt to find validation. However, Beth showed up shortly after and patched things up with her daughter before Summer left to stop Morty's attack on America's power source. While Summer was successful and eventually had her memory reset, Beth remained interested in the pottery class, which was hiding a sinister surprise.
During the post-credits scene, it is revealed that the class is run by vampires who feast on the young so that they can stay middle-aged. Fortunately, Beth managed to fight them off when they targeted her, eventually tackling one out of the window, who died as a result of the sunlight. Although the gag is treated in a light-hearted way, the revelation was a genuine surprise that fit in with the animated show's usual unpredictable behavior, making it an effective scene.

Rick & Morty Season 8 Might've Just Teased A Shocking Villain Return After Everyone Thought They'd Died
Rick and Morty season 8's trailer seemingly hints at a potential comeback from THAT villain, even though they were definitively killed in season 7.
Having tested Summer and Morty's relationship with Rick and Beth, the episode ending on a more comedic note with the usual Rick and Morty shenanigans felt fitting, and while the vampires were hardly scary given how easily Beth dealt with them, adding in a brief horror element confirmed that Rick and Morty season 8 will be as chaotic as ever.
"Summer Of All Fears" Gets Rick & Morty Season 8’s Post-Credits Gags Off To A Good Start
The Unexpected Twist Proves It'll Be Worth Sticking Around Until The End Of Each Episode
The post-credits gags are a consistently fun part of Rick and Morty, and season 8 has kicked things off with an eventful start. It may have felt a little random, but the Zante Fe group being vampires gave their role in the episode a humorous pay-off, and Beth's final line was one of the funniest in the entire premiere. After the lead vampire disintegrated due to the sunlight, Beth bluntly responded, "The sun turns you to dust and you pick Zante Fe? That’s on you", with her sassy tone really helping sell the joke.

It was also great to see Beth given the spotlight, especially since Space Beth is set to return in Rick and Morty season 8, and the fact that the post-credits scene tied in so well with the main story only amplified it. Assuming the rest of the season can follow suit, these gags seem like they will only get better with each episode and provide viewers a reason to stick around until the end of each one. As a result, I'm already excited for next week's adventure, which will hopefully continue Rick and Morty season 8's early form.
