One of Jerry Smith, his reunion with the former Pickle goes sour when he learns that Rick lied about the capabilities of his portal gun and the existence of the multiverse which includes infinite timelines including those that contain his deceased wife and daughter. Jaguar uses this anger and betrayal to further strengthen his pursuit of Rick and Jerry throughout the universe, making his mission both business and personal.
In Rick and Morty Season 3, Episode 3 "Pickle Rick", the infamous intergalactic scientist and terrorist's plan to escape family therapy ends up with Rick as a pickle wearing a modified exoskeleton built from rat remains battling armed guards in a secure complex. When Rick mows down the guards one by one, the complex's releases Jaguar, a fearless assassin held prisoner who is promised his daughter if he kills this Pickle Man. Unfortunately, Rick and Jaguar bond instead of murdering each other, killing his captor who reveals his daughter is dead before the entire complex is destroyed. When Rick reveals the existence of the multiverse and that he's able to access them through his portal gun, Jaguar asks if this means there are infinite versions of his daughter that exist to which Rick lies, saying this is exclusive only to him to which Jaguar sadly flies away.
Although Jaguar would appear sometime later to save his deaths were caused by Jerry's accidental flatulence, Jaguar's pursuit brings him into with Rick who's come to retrieve Jerry who stole his portal gun for his own moronic reasons. During the battle, Jerry accidentally reveals that Rick lied, that the universe is full of infinite copies of everyone including Jaguar's deceased family. Enraged at Rick's lies and how much they've cost him, Jaguar attacks them both but is delayed by one of Rick's creative exits.
While Jaguar is a ruthless killing machine, he is haunted by the loss of loved ones and motivated by grief. He only attacked Rick originally because he was promised his daughter, allowing his captor to die once he learned he had been deceived. Rick's portal gun represented hope for him to reclaim something similar to what he lost and Rick, for whatever reason, denied him that. Although the timeline is not clear where this adventure takes place, that all represents lost time that Jaguar could have spent with his wife and daughter. Rick clearly underestimated how much of a poor decision lying to Jaguar was as the man relentlessly follows him and Jerry throughout the universe regardless of where they portal to.
Although the pursuit is thanks to a tracking device that Jerry didn't realize was under his shoe, Jaguar's dedication and the fact that he injured and was prepared to kill Rick shows how deep this lie affected him personally. Perpetually haunted by the memory of his daughter, Rick's saving grace was an emotional but hollow confession to Jerry about his family that has Jaguar fulfilling another action cliché, screaming in anguish while firing his gun in the air. Although Jaguar would eventually find peace, many of Rick and Morty's problems derive from Rick's ability to manipulate and coerce people into doing what he wants, proving that while he may be a genius, it doesn't mean he's a good person.
