A Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger. Portrayed by Robert Englund in eight feature films and two seasons of the Freddy's Nightmares anthology TV series, Freddy Krueger is no doubt one of the most iconic horror villains in the history of the genre. From his red and green striped sweater to the custom knife glove he uses to hack up victims, just about every aspect of Freddy contributes to his fame.
Outside of his wardrobe and weapon, Freddy's most popular feature is definitely the one-liners he drops prior to killing his targets. This didn't really become a thing until A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, but Freddy's quips quickly became one of the most talked about aspects of his character. These lines also often came to include the word "bitch," added seemingly to emphasize Freddy's disdain for his opposition, many of which foolishly thought they had a chance of stopping him for good.
While Rick and Morty's Scary Terry was far from the first attempt to parody Freddy Krueger - Treehouse of Horror story "Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace" did it splendidly - it's arguably the best of the bunch. Here's why.
Rick & Morty: Scary Terry Is A Perfect Freddy Krueger Parody
Surprisingly enough, considering his popularity, Scary Terry has actually only appeared in a single episode of Rick and Morty. That episode came right near the beginning, entitled "Lawnmower Dog," and was in fact only the second episode of the show to air. The plot sees Rick and Morty setting out to enter the dreams of Morty's math teacher in the hopes they can get Morty an A in the class. As usual for Rick and Morty, things get weird, and the two run into Scary Terry while inside the dream world, who pursues them through multiple different dreams. As pointed out by Rick, Scary Terry appears to be a "legally-safe knockoff of an '80s horror character with miniature swords for fingers instead of knives".
Every aspect of Freddy Krueger is parodied by Scary Terry, from the knives becoming swords, to the striped sweater now being blue and green, to the fedora he wears, and deformed skin, now purple. Scary Terry also has a set of testicles on his chin, but that's neither here nor there. His defining character trait is his propensity for adding "bitch!" to basically every line of dialogue. However, in a fun twist, Terry is shown to be a sort of punch-clock villain, going home at the end of the day to wife Melissa and young son Scary Brandon. Rick and Morty eventually befriend Scary Terry, leading to a hilarious "awww, bitch" from him after a kind gesture. Amusingly, Robert Englund himself was once asked for his thoughts on Scary Terry, and expressed his approval of the send-up.
