Lord of the Rings trilogy.
In a recent interview with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar+), McKay reveals more about how the Ents will feature in The Rings of Power season 2. According to the showrunner, it will be Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) who will first encounter the creatures, and audiences will also be getting a first look at an Ent-wife. Check out McKay's comment below:
"This season, we have an incredible sequence involving the character Arondir [Ismael Cruz Córdova] in the middle of the season, where he's going to uncover a mystery that will lead him to a very surprising encounter with a pair of Ents. They are the shepherds of the forest, which are talking, walking trees.
"Ents are a thing that we know exist in Middle-earth but we've never seen a couple of Ents, including an Ent wife. So that's an instance of a thing that ostensibly is not a moment fans have been anticipating, or expecting to happen on the way to the road to the Battle of Eregion.
"There's a lot of moments in between that are hopefully just as delightful, or maybe even more surprising. But that's the fun of it all, right? In Middle-earth, you never know what you’re gonna get."

The Rings Of Power Hints Hobbits & Ents Have A History LOTR Never Told
A sly The Rings of Power Easter egg from Sadoc Burrows hints that Hobbits and Ents share a much deeper history than just Merry and Pippin in LOTR.
How The Rings Of Power Season 2 Expands The World Of Middle-earth
Expect Some New Lord Of The Rings Creatures & Locations
Between The Rings of Power season 1 and Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies, the world of Middle-earth has now been fairly extensively explored on-screen. Season 2 of the Prime Video series is, however, set to introduce some fresh elements into the mix that audiences haven't seen before. In addition to the first female Ent, the show will also be introducing the first Hill-troll, a creature by the name of Damrod who will be voiced by Benjamin Walker. Damrod will be a key figure in Adar's (Sam Hazeldine) army.
Adar was played by actor Joseph Mawle in season 1, but Hazeldine takes over the role for season 2.
It's also now been confirmed that The Rings of Power season 2 will feature Barrow-wights. Barrow-wights were wraith-like monsters who did appear in Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring, but that section of Frodo's story didn't ultimately make it into Jackson's adaptation. Season 2 is expected to feature an army of the beings, and they can be briefly seen in trailers in a misty, forested environment, surrounding Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and other key of the Rings of Power's cast of characters.
In of Middle-earth locations, The Rings of Power season 2 will be bringing the land of Rhûn to life on-screen for the first time. The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) will be traveling to this desert location in a sequence that the showrunners have previously likened to a "Tolkenien Lawrence of Arabia." In addition to the above elements, it's likely that The Rings of Power season 2 will have some other exciting surprises in store for viewers as well.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 premieres on August 29 on Prime Video.
