Harrison Ford made a surprise cameo as Han Solo in Star Wars turned Harrison Ford into a major star, which he cemented with the Indiana Jones franchise and other hits. However, it's well known Ford himself isn't a big fan of sci-fi, and while he's enormously appreciative of what Star Wars did for his career, in the years that followed the original trilogy he was increasingly reluctant to talk about it.
The enduring popularity of his biggest franchises has seen Harrison Ford return to some of his most famous roles. In 2008 he donned the fedora for what - at the time - looked like his final outing as the title character in Blade Runner 2049 was much better received, but despite critical acclaim, it was a box-office letdown.
Easily the biggest shock return for Ford was as Han Solo in 2015's Return Of The Jedi, which was for Han to die. In The Force Awakens' finale, he confronts his son Ben Solo (Adam Driver), who has turned to the Dark Side and is known as Kylo Ren. Han pleads to Ben's better nature, but while his son appears to be conflicted, he instead kills Han to complete his turn to evil.
Star Wars 9 later featured the return of Harrison Ford - which the production impressively managed to keep secret - as Han Solo. He appears to Ben following his defeat in a duel with Rey (Daisy Ridley) and the ing of Princess Leia. The Han and Ben scene is an intentional repeat of Their Force Awakens encounter, but with a happier outcome as Ben finally sheds Kylo Ren and returns from the Dark Side. Following the movie's release, there was some debate over whether Han is just a memory of Ben's in that moment or a Force ghost.
The latter wouldn't make much sense, considering Han wasn't Force-sensitive and never trained to use it. One person not particularly invested or open to the debate on the subject is Harrison Ford himself, who in a 2020 interview with Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker mystery. He replied with "A Force ghost? I don’t know what a Force ghost is. Don’t tell anyone. I’m not talking loud enough for your recorder. I have no f***ing idea what a Force ghost is. And I don’t care!" So, he's probably part of Ben's memory then.
