Riverdale season 7 trailer shows the town completely changed, with 1950s wardrobes, settings, and dialogue. Jughead is revealed as the only character aware of the time warp as he tries to fix reality and save his friends.
In an interview with TVLine, Sacasa shares his vision for Riverdale’s grand finale and reveals how the series will end. After six seasons of Riverdale's dark storylines, relationship drama, and the introduction of magic, Sacasa says he wants to finish with something special and bring the show back to its better days. While the retro style of the 1950s brings some glamour to Riverdale, Sacasa reveals that the time warp isn't permanent. When asked whether Archie and the gang will be back in their original timeline before the series ends, Sacasa divulges with this reply:
“Yes, I can say that it is good to expect that.”
Season 7 Takes Riverdale Back To Better Days
1950s Riverdale is sure to be just as dramatic and dark as its past seasons, but taking the characters back in time refreshes the show, letting it return to its best seasons. The show is well known for its outlandish plots, but Riverdale season 7's story is less bizarre and it's much needed. The show was most popular in its first season, and it seems to be returning to that era as the characters forget the events of the past six seasons and return to high school. This refreshes almost everything as characters establish new relationships, reverting to who they were in Riverdale season 1.
Riverdale season 7 also brings back all the relationship drama of the early seasons as the established relationships are forgotten, and new couples are introduced. Archie is shown romancing Betty, Veronica, and Cheryl in the season 7 trailer, and it's very nostalgic. Archie's love triangle with Betty and Veronica is one of the most recognizable elements of the series and its return feels necessary for Riverdale's ending.
The new season still promises the same dark plot lines and somewhat cringy dialogue that's been consistent throughout the show, but adding back these elements makes Riverdale significantly better. Somewhere in the six seasons, the show got lost in all the mayhem and become too focused on shocking the audience, and this return to teen drama is a welcome change. It may have taken until the last season, but Riverdale is back to better days as it captures the lives of the residents with an almost normal amount of time warping and mystery.
