WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for Batman and Robin #17!

Sorry, Robin has a new ride, and he’s officially ditching the Batmobile’s enger seat for it. More than just a flashy upgrade, this new vehicle symbolizes the growing divide between the Dynamic Duo——a gut-wrenching blow for fans who hate seeing the father-son bond unravel before their eyes.

“That was the first thing I inherited from you, father. Disobedience.” - Damian Wayne

Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Javier Fernández, and Marcelo Maiolo’s Batman and Robin #17 continues to follow the Dark Knight and Boy Wonder as they wrestle with personal tensions while battling the mass-murdering, increasingly supernatural villain, Memento. In this issue, Batman comes dangerously close to death after being dosed with the lethal concoction known as Gravedigger’s Poppy.

Thankfully, Robin swoops in just in time to save him. However, their reunion following their earlier argument is short-lived, as the two quickly spiral into another heated fight—one that ends with Damian storming off once again, this time on his newly debuted ROBIN-QUAD.

After yet another fight between the Dynamic Duo, this time in the Batcave, Damian informs his still-recovering father that Gordon and Lautrec have been trying to reach him. He announces that he will go in Bruce’s stead to meet them, citing Batman’s weakened state after being gassed and wounded. Bruce, however, refuses, insisting that Damian will do no such thing and fully intends to accompany him. Damian, clearly unimpressed by his father’s objections, makes his stance known as he climbs onto a Robin-themed four-wheeler. The vehicle is so comically over-the-top in its design and gimmicky that it’s hard not to grin, even amid the heated tension between father and son.

The quad itself is mostly a standard four-wheeler, save for its vibrant, themed paint job. Its solid red body is adorned with a green bat emblem stretched across the front, overlaid by a yellow Robin “R.” The bold colors and obvious nod to the Boy Wonder’s moniker make it a fantastic addition to the Bat-Family’s collection of themed rides. Still, the real highlight of the scene isn’t the quad but Damian’s parting shot at Bruce as he drives off: “That was the first thing I inherited from you, father. Disobedience.”

Damian’s parting shot at Bruce, combined with the quad’s debut during yet another fight between the Dynamic Duo, suggests the vehicle is more than just a flashy ride—it serves as a visual representation of the growing rift between father and son. In this scene, the Batmobile is present, and Bruce fully intends to accompany Robin to meet Lautrec and Gordon. Yet, despite his father’s protests, Damian rejects the offer to ride shotgun and chooses his own mode of transportation instead. While the Robin-Quad is undeniably cool, there’s no escaping the emotional sting of Damian turning his back on both Batman and his place in the Batmobile—a gut punch for fans of the once-close partnership.
