As the world patiently waits for Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar Games' fans are putting their heads together to brainstorm a potential new franchise. While the storied developer was once known for hosting a diverse range of games, the success of Grand Theft Auto 5, and subsequently Grand Theft Auto Online, has seen its active IPs shrink. While Red Dead Redemption 2 was a huge hit in its own right, the failure of its multiplayer mode may have pushed Rockstar into placing all its eggs into GTA's lucrative basket.
Over on Reddit, RogerRoger63358 asked the community their thoughts on a futuristic Grand Theft Auto, like a spin-off of the core series that embraced sci-fi and cyberpunk tropes.
Players were mixed on the idea but commenter vi______________ offered a compromise of an open-world sci-fi Rockstar Game that exists as its own franchise divorced from Grand Theft Auto, an idea that received plenty of praise from fans. The consensus is that many players want to see Rockstar tackle the sci-fi genre as a separate IP, one that may be inspired by GTA but doesn't take place in the same world.
GTA Could Make For A Great Cyberpunk-Like
It Could Take Inspiration From CD Projekt Red
As a role-playing game, Cyberpunk 2077 plays very differently from the Grand Theft Auto series but it does provide an excellent blueprint for how to build a sci-fi open-world. Rockstar's ability to craft detailed, intricate environments filled with oddities and emergent storytelling could work in an environment as familiar but alien as a cyberpunk city. Taking some of the genre's tropes and fitting them into an action-adventure game would make for a fun experience, similar to Saints Row 4.
Rockstar could also fix some of the core issues players had with Cyberpunk 2077 if the studio ever goes the route of developing an open-world sci-fi game. Even after several substantial updates, CDPR's RPG can feel a little robotic with stilted NPCs and events that happen on a timer rather than organically. Rockstar's eye for detail and ability to make digital worlds feel alive would remedy a major issue with 2077, even if programming such an environment takes years.

GTA 6's Story Could Be Setting Up Rockstar's Most Emotional Moment Yet
Betrayal is such a major theme throughout Rockstar Studio's games, Grand Theft Auto 6's treachery storyline has an opportunity to top all the rest.
Screen Rant's Take On A Cyberpunk GTA
It Could Be Fun If It's Handled Correctly
The Grand Theft Auto series has always reveled in its ability to parody modern life, so I have to imagine that Rockstar's biting satire of technology and society would translate well into the cyberpunk genre. The studio is incredibly talented at deg open worlds, so on a technical level, I think it could do a good job of bringing a dystopian future to life. Whether it ever leaves the comfort of GTA is doubtful at this point, but I can't help but think a new sci-fi IP from Rockstar would likely be a smash hit.
