The first teaser trailer for Call Me By Your Name filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. Much has changed for Chalamet since Call Me By Your Name's success, with comparisons to Leonardo DiCaprio and Ryan Gosling's careers being readily made by fans.

There is still a long career ahead of Chalamet, and at just 26 years of age, he's already landed himself a best actor Oscar nomination. Fans want to see him continue to excel, but there's also more than a little uncertainty about what kind of actor he will eventually become. As a result, there's a lot of discussion as to which roles he could play, particularly from fans on Reddit.

Jack The RipperJack the Ripper walking under cover of night, just a black silhouette

As arguably the most notorious serial killer of all time, Jack the Ripper terrorized the East End of London from 1888 to 1891, striking eleven times. His crimes were unlike anything seen before at the time and remain unsolved to this day, prompting plenty of amateur sleuths to study the history in hopes of discovering The Ripper’s true identity.

It’s been a while since the killer was given the big screen treatment, but Redditor Jadeidol65 thinks it’s time to give Timothée Chalamet the chance to change that, stating: “I think he could have a very bright future, especially in period pieces. Perhaps…as Jack the Ripper.” It’s a dark role for the young actor to play, but it could be just the sort of new direction that Chalamet’s career could benefit from.

Leon Trotsky

Russian-Ukrainian activist, revolutionary, political theorist, and politician Leo Trotsky is one of history’s most prominent Marxist proponents. Having lived a life filled with intrigue and adventure that includes two separate escapes from the notorious Soviet prison camp in Siberia, a Trotsky biopic could certainly offer a certain amount of appeal.

Chalamet has already proven that he can play a radical sort of figure, having starred as Zeffirelli in Wes Anderson’s most recent effort, The French Dispatch. While that role was a tongue-in-cheek take on revolutionary politics, playing Trotsky would be a far bigger challenge. Chalamet already has the of some, however, as Redditor Darth-Craterus made clear when they said, “Timothee Chalamet should play a young Trotsky.”

Tim Drake

Known primarily as Batman’s sidekick Robin, Tim Drake first appeared in a Batman comic in 1989. As far as sidekicks go, Tim is pretty indispensable, with strong detective skills and the ability to take the Robin character to heights that previous Robins simply haven’t gone to. Also known as Red Robin, there’s plenty of room for Tim Drake in future DCEU films.

Chalamet has yet to jump into the world of superheroes, though some feel that the role of Tim Drake is just the place for him to make his debut. Many Batman fans also question whether or not Chalamet would make a good Dick Grayson – the superhero to take on the Robin moniker before Drake, but Redditor LukePuddlehopper, stands by the Drake casting, confirming, “He’d be a far better Tim.”

Dorian Gray

Oscar Wilde created the Dorian Gray character for his 1891 novel, The Portrait of Dorian Gray. The story centers around a man (Gray) who doesn’t want to grow old and sells his soul, ensuring that a portrait painted of him ages while he remains young. Unfortunately, Gray’s debaucherous life takes a chilling turn for the worse.

It’s a testament to Chalamet’s acting abilities that people feel he’s suited for dramatic roles with plenty of historical significance. The Picture of Dorian Gray needs an updated big screen adaptation, and Chalamet just might have the looks and appeal to pull off the role. Redditor TheThoroughCrocodile agrees, saying, “Dorian Gray is a great call for him.”

Arthur Rimbaud

Famed 19th-century French poet Arthur Rimbaud lead a short but impactful life that continues to resonate in literature today. Rimbaud has been portrayed in several films over the years, most notably by Leonardo DiCaprio in 1995’s, Total Eclipse, but the subject matter has not managed to generate significant box office appeal.

Perhaps then, the time is right for Chalamet to take on the role. Having proven that his French language abilities are strong in the aforementioned The French Dispatch, Chalamet is the right age and temperament to play Rimbaud. Redditor Owls_Onto_You agrees with this assessment, saying, “He'd make a perfect Rimbaud. He has that angsty artist thing down.”

Billy Budd

Based on an unfinished novella by acclaimed author Herman Melville, Billy Budd is the story of a young man who s the crew of the British warship the HMS Bellipotent and becomes embroiled in a criminal case. The book has only ever been directly adapted into one feature film in 1962, with Terrence Stamp playing the eponymous Budd.

It’s easy to imagine Chalamet in the role of Budd, especially after seeing the 1962 film. Stamp and Chalamet are strikingly similar in appearance and build. Redditor asromatifoso explains, “I would love to see him play Billy Budd, originally played by Terence Stamp. It's one of my favorite movies and Stamp was great in it but a remake with Chalamet could be very good.” However, it’s hard to say if there’s much demand for this type of reboot.

Batman

A crime-fighter unlike any other, Batman has grown into a monolithic franchise, the likes of which has few (if any) rivals. Over the years fans have watched the surprisingly difficult task of portraying Batman handed down to a wide variety of actors. The role has strengthened the career of some actors while resulting in a cringeworthy display for others.

When it comes to considering Chalamet for the role of Batman, the first thing that stands out is his physique. The caped crusader is known for his muscular and rugged appearance and as things currently stand, that’s not the type of actor that Chalamet is. This could always change, of course, and Redditor BhodiSatoshi seems to be planning for this day, saying, “5 years from now he gets beefy and plays Batman.”

Harry Osborn

Harry Osborn in Spider-Man 3

Most notably portrayed on the big screen by James Franco, this Spider-Man antagonist is well represented throughout the comic books, film adaptations, and television programs. Though Harry is friends with Spider-Man’s alter-ego Peter Parker, there is a certain degree of animosity between the two, the likes of which was maximized within the films.

It’s fair to say that as far as comic book movies go, the role of Harry Osborn could be a decent one for Chalamet. The character is motivated by deeper issues than greed or world domination and as such allows for exploration from an actor with Chalamet’s skills. Redditor weslinginghero seconds this opinion, saying “…he fits more for Harry Osborn.”
