Room 104: Trailer & Poster For Duplass' Latest

The show is being put together by the team of Mark and Jay Duplass, who currently executive produce HBO’s adult animated comedy series inspiration for Room 104 came from wanting to explore that middle ground between the two extremes usually portrayed on screen: "We’ve all seen stories set in seedy motels and high-class international resorts, but for years we’ve been fascinated by the funny, weird, sad, scary, absurd things going down in that corporate chain hotel near the airport."

Now HBO has released a trailer for Room 104, which you can watch above. It's clear that this is going to be more than just your average drunk businessman having a bit of a wild night away from home. Amidst the comedy and heavy drama, there appear to be plenty of stories featuring mysterious supernatural and horror elements. The list of episode synopses released by HBO includes a story involving a woman (Sameerah Luqmaan-Harris) hoping to transcend to another reality via a cult priest (Jones), and in an episode that provides much of the striking imagery in the video, a housekeeper (Dendrie Taylor) reconnects with her younger self (Sarah Hay).

The official poster for the series, which features a woman leaping into her hotel room bathroom, also hints at the adult content viewers expect from HBO. Van Der Beek's episode in Room 104 has a synopsis that reads like a vintage porn scenario, where "a pizza delivery boy gets caught up in a couple’s twisted games." The trailer also begins with a hilarious peek at the episode featuring two young Mormon missionaries (Adam Foster and Nat Wolff), who seek a sign from God and find the hotel porn channel.

Room 104 so far looks fascinating, and the interesting array of contributors could lead to some groundbreaking results. Taylor's episode featuring the past-and-present housekeepers is directed by Dayna Hanson, who is best known as a contemporary dance choreographer. Documentary director and producer Xan Aranda s actor Ross Partridge (recently on Billions) to write and direct Landecker's episode about the sole survivor of a plane crash who must choose to go back in time or live with her new fate. While the lack of consistency in tone and direction from episode to episode could lead to a hit or miss result, it's likely there will be few criticisms of boring or stale plotlines.
