Edgar Wright and Michael Cera will be reuniting fourteen years after Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World to reimagine Stephen King'sThe Running Man will star Glen Powell, Katy O'Brian, Josh Broken, and Lee Pace.

With The Running Man set for release in 2025, another pair of casting additions have been revealed by The Hollywood Reporter. Locke & Key star Emilia Jones has been cast in an undisclosed role, and Cera will also star in the feature. While Cera did reprise his role in the Wright-produced Scott Pilgrim Takes Off anime in 2023, it is the first time the pair have worked directly with one another since the 2010 adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novel series.

​​​​​While there is already much anticipation surrounding The Running Man with Wright's return to directing for the first time since 2021's Last Night In Soho, Cera's involvement will help excitement build. Despite Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World falling short at the box office, the movie has gathered an incredibly dedicated cult following that has only grown with time as more people viewed it.

Furthermore, the cast and the crew have come together on multiple occasions beyond its anime reimagining for watch parties and charity script readings save for a handful of participants in certain circumstances, showing that a fondness for the production is still held among the ensemble. Cera revealed in a 2023 interview that he felt he grew so close with the cast and crew that he was disappointed to let it go. As such, many may be eager just to see the pair work together once more.

Wright's The Running Man had already gathered an all-star cast of established and newer, up-and-coming performers fresh off some of 2024's most discussed movies, with Powell and O'Brian. But, as seen with his collaborations with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, some of Wright's best work has come from his projects where he has worked alongside friends.

As such, many may be eager to see what Wright and Cera can bring to The Running Man together. Though it may be an adaptation of King's writing, both Cera and Wright have proven with Scott Pilgrim that they can incorporate improvisational work while remaining loyal to the source material, so the pair may be able to add new surprises for the 2025 reimagining.
