Any film that receives an overall score of lower than 60% is determined to be "Rotten" on Rotten Tomatoes. The recently released Kraven the Hunter is Crowe's newest movie to be declared "Rotten." Kraven the Hunter is Crowe's third movie of the year to have a score of less than 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, proving that 2024 was not a standout year for the actor. In addition to Kraven the Hunter, The Exorcism and Sleeping Dogs were two other 2024 movies starring Crowe that were not received well by critics.

Kraven the Hunter is a movie produced by Sony Pictures that is based on a popular Spider-Man villain. Kraven the Hunter is set in the same universe as Sony's previous Spider-Man-related projects, such as the Venom movies, Morbius, and Madame Web. While some people enjoyed the Tom Hardy-led Venom films, both Morbius and Madame Web were panned by audiences and critics alike. Therefore, there were not high hopes heading towards the release of Kraven the Hunter.

Currently, Kraven the Hunter has a dismal Rotten Tomatoes score of 15%. In Kraven the Hunter, Crowe plays Nikolai Kravinoff, a ruthless Russian gangster who is the father of the titular character. Overall, none of the characters in Kraven the Hunter resonated with audiences, and critics noted that it is an underwhelming superhero movie. After Kraven the Hunter's poor reception, it appears that Sony's Spider-Man universe is now dead.

None of Sony's Spider-Man-related movies performed well with critics, so it may not have been the wisest career move for Crowe to sign on to Kraven the Hunter if he was looking for a critical success. However, his other recent pursuits have also not won over critics. Not counting documentaries, out of his last 10 movies, only two are "Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes.

2024's Land of Bad and 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder are the only recent movies starring Crowe that have a "Fresh" rating. However, the ratings of those two films are only 67% and 63%, respectively, so those weren't even critical successes. It is clear that Russell Crowe is on a disappointing streak of poorly-received movies, so hopefully he can star in another critical darling sooner rather than later.
