Ryan Gosling's new movie, confirmed a sequel with gosling returning as Sierra Six. This piece of news will excite a lot of subscribers, but it'll also have thousands of people rolling their eyes, as Netflix will spend another $200 million on a sequel instead of putting that money into something they deem more worthwhile.
Gosling has been in so many huge movies over the years, many of which hint at more story to tell, and others are just so much fun that they leave viewers wanting more. Instead of The Gray Man, fans of the actor would much rather see him follow up an overlooked 2016 buddy-cop movie or one of the best sci-fi movies of the decade.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
In actuality, the impressive legacy sequel ended up being just as good as its predecessor, and some think it was even better even though it wasn't necessary.
But, unlike the original movie, 2049 does set up a sequel. Rocky_Roku explains, "It actually has more potential set up than the original. I would really love to see the replicants lead a revolution against Jared Leto or his successor." The movie hinted at a huge replicant uprising, and Gosling's K is the perfect character to lead the army, especially as his character ultimately didn't have any kind of character arc in the 2017 movie.
Drive (2011)
Audiences tend to know what to expect from a character played by Gosling at this point, which is a quiet and Drive. Primary_Thing3968 thinks Drive should get a sequel and that it should feature more of what made the film great.
The Redditor notes, "The action and robbery scenes were, I thought, perfect and felt very realistic and not so over the top." The 2011 movie is a great crime drama about a getaway driver and while it very much feels like a standalone movie, the novel it's based on got a sequel. Unfortunately, director Nicolas Winding Refn has shut the idea of a sequel down, and, according to Indie Wire, he bluntly explained, "No, there will never be a Drive movie."
The Nice Guys (2016)
Shane Black's a buddy-cop crime caper about two private eyes trying to solve a missing person case, but it quickly leads to a much bigger conspiracy. NietzscheResurrected is one of many fans who want to see the sequel. The Redditor posits, "In these times where we keep seeing sequels of so many crappy movies, there needs to be a Nice Guys Part 2."
Black clearly has a love for the characters he created, as he mentioned on countless occasions that he would love nothing more than to shoot a sequel. According to Cinema Blend, the filmmaker enthusiastically noted, "In a heartbeat, if someone would pay for it. We had all kinds of ideas." Unfortunately, the film was a huge box office bomb when it was released in 2016, not making much more than its budget, so it's unlikely that a sequel will ever happen unless it becomes that much of a cult classic.
Only God Forgives (2013)
Following Drive, Refn and Gosling worked together again on the crime drama Only God Forgives. And Reddit SIngleServingFriend has an absurd but interesting theory that the 2013 movie is the second of a themed trilogy that began with Drive. The Redditor thinks the film is part two of a Vengeance trilogy, explaining, "Three different stories featuring different characters, all encapsulated by a similar theme."
While it's a strange request, another Refn and Gosling team-up is an exciting thought, as they seemed to have a great working relationship. A third movie could be great as long as Refn doesn't lean into the vague symbolism as much as he did with Only God Forgives.
Crazy Stupid Love (2011)
With an impressive ensemble cast and being full of surprises, Barbie, as Hannah says herself, "It's like you're Photoshopped."
In a response to more of a dramatic sequel pitch about how Jacob ends up completely unhappy in his life despite being able to be with any woman he wants, completely changed genres for the sequel.
The Big Short (2015)
The book of The Big Short was open and shut with the first film, as it told the story of the 2008 Financial Crisis, but with a graph showing how quickly inflation has risen, Outof_ITM thinks that the bubble will burst any minute and it'll be the perfect premise for The Big Short 2. The Redditor ecstatically notes, "The Big Short 2 is gonna be lit."
In fairness, with the cryptocurrency market being completely unstable, and even stable stocks dropping exponentially, explaining how it happened by Margot Robbie back in the bathtub could be just as entertaining as its predecessor. And while Jared Vennett is based on Greg Lipmann, he's still a fictional character who could return for a sequel.
Young Hercules
Young Hercules might not be a movie, Emergency_Argument29 but has an incredible and unique pitch. While not a direct sequel to the events of the rather silly TV series, the Redditor thinks that Gosling should reprise his role as the son of Zeus for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The posits, "I always thought it'd be fun to have an actor who played Hercules to play him in the MCU, so maybe Ryan Gosling?"
Unfortunately, the actor playing Hercules in the MCU has just been revealed in Thor: Love and Thunder, as Brett Goldstein will be playing the god in the franchise. However, with the next three phases of the MCU being titled The Multiverse Saga, it could be a very niche bit of fan service to have Gosling briefly appear as Hercules.
