Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 was famously canceled, yet with rumors of the project being revived at Sony, how different would it look after the events of Spider-Man 4's storyboards and script (via Den of Geek) have been partially revealed and discussed since its cancellation. However, the most recent MCU Spider-Man film notably brought Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker (as well as Andrew Garfield's) into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If Spider-Man 4 were to come out, it would have to make substantial changes to its original script.
Raimi's Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3.
If viewer demand for Spider-Man 4 is enough for Sony to bring back Maguire and Raimi, it's likely that the film would look very different from its original script and concept art. Most notably, the Vulture and Mysterio have now both made their movie debuts, played by MCU villain actors Michael Keaton and Jake Gyllenhaal. That's not to say that Sony couldn't put their own spin on the characters (now that the multiverse has been established, anything goes), but it's unlikely the studio would want to reuse the same villains within just a few years.
Confirming the Sam Raimi universe as part of the Marvel multiverse also creates issues for this version of the script. Where Spider-Man 4 originally intended to continue straight on from Spider-Man 3 with a younger Peter Parker, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man is now in his 40s. This also wouldn't mean the film couldn't be a success, but the young Spidey dealing with the recent death of Harry Osborn would have to be in a significantly different stage of his life.
Interestingly, Mary Jane Watson actor Kirsten Dunst wasn't locked down to reprise her role in Spider-Man 4, though it's likely she would've returned. Spider-Man: No Way Home makes reference to Peter and Mary Jane's turbulent relationship, though he eventually concedes that they managed to make it work. If Spider-Man 4 was to finally see the light of day, it would have to vastly change the original script and storyboards to for Peter and Mary Jane's more adult, settled relationship.
Seeing Tobey Maguire return as Peter Parker alongside Willem Defoe as the Green Goblin and Alfred Molina as Doc Ock in Spider-Man: No Way Home was an incredibly popular move, and Sony may decide to capitalize on this hype by reviving Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4. However, it seems unlikely that if the film does get made, it'll look anything like the original script and storyboards. Peter Parker has significantly aged and changed since discovering the multiverse, its key villains have recently been used in other movies, and Peter and Mary Jane's relationship would have to evolve in new and exciting ways to maintain continuity with Spider-Man: No Way Home.
