Sam Wilson has sured Steve as the best fighter by overcoming the vicious mercenary.

The recently released Marvel's Voices: Legacy #1 by Natacha Bustos, Victor Lavalle, and Cody Ziglar is a collection of short comic stories featuring Black superheroes in celebration of Black History Month. Missing out on last year's Marvel Voices: Legacy collection, Sam Wilson gets his due by being featured in the first story, Date Night written by J. Holtham, with art by Julian Shaw and Paris Alleyne. While dodging fans and traffic alike, Sam is on a rush to make it to a date, but when he notices Taskmaster up to some shady business, he just can't ignore it.

Sam brandishes his wings and confronts the mercenary, and the two have a short fight. What's notable here is how effortlessly Sam handles Taskmaster, dodging his attacks and knocking him off a roof with a single punch and then tackling him into a restaurant, which conveniently happens to be where Misty Knight, Sam's date, is waiting. Misty then deals the final blow. Taskmaster's power of photographic reflexes is what makes him such a formidable foe, being able to copy one's fighting style and exploit its weaknesses. He's used this power to overtake several of Marvel's other heroes like Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Spider-Man.

In the past, Taskmaster has only ever lost due to sensory overload, or by simply not being able to do anything about his opponent's power. For Sam to overcome Taskmaster with just a few blows, means that he is definitely a better fighter than Steve Rogers. Despite having battled him many times, Steve could just never get the upper hand, unless Taskmaster was already injured. During the siege of Asgard, Taskmaster held off both Steve and Bucky and won. But against Sam Wilson, he just couldn't do it.

To be fair to Taskmaster, this was a short story intended for just a few pages. Things might have been different if the story was longer and the two had more time to duke it out. Regardless, that does not change the fact that Sam beat him (with credit to Misty for finishing him off) with just a few punches. Out of all the people to have ever called themselves Captain AmericaSam Wilson is the best fighter of all of them, his bout with the skull-faced mercenary proving it.
