current devices like the Galaxy A53.
Samsung has also used its Exynos chips in its flagship Galaxy S-series devices for markets like South Korea and India, but that changed with the Galaxy S22 lineup. Samsung chose to launch Snapdragon-powered models in its home country and India, while Europe still got Exynos. However, rumors suggest that next year's Galaxy S23 series might be exclusively powered by Snapdragon chips across all regions of the world, meaning the Exynos chips could be relegated to mid-range and entry-level devices soon.
The Exynos line is far from dead, even though Samsung is reportedly going all-in with Snapdragon processors for its flagship smartphones from next year. According to a South Korean publication, The Elec report, Samsung will continue to use its in-house chips in entry-level and mid-range devices in the foreseeable future. The report cites an analysis from market research firm GFK to claim that 26 percent of all Samsung phones next year could be powered by Exynos processors, which would be an improvement over the 20 percent share it had during Q2, 2022. Overall, Exynos processors are likely to power 28 percent of all Samsung smartphones by the end of this year, which would be an increase over the 27 percent of devices it powered last year.
Exynos Remains Alive And Well, At Least For Now
Samsung hasn't officially confirmed why it plans to move away from Exynos chips for its flagship devices in 2023, but online speculations suggest it could range from thermal throttling issues of its flagship Exynos 2300 chip to Qualcomm's superior 5G modem in its flagship SoC that's expected to be named Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Whatever the reason, Exynos' days seem to be numbered as far as flagship Samsung smartphones are concerned, at least in the short term.
Interestingly, despite Samsung's move away from Exynos in its flagship smartphones, the chips continue to power some of the most well-reviewed flagship Android devices currently on the market. According to an Tensor G2 chip for the Pixel 7 series, Exynos chips are expected to remain alive and well across all segments of the market one way or another, at least for the time being.
