Warning: SPOILERS for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #20
Boruto’s story finally showcases Sarada using her Mangekyo Sharingan, which fans have been waiting for since her awakening in chapter 80 of Boruto: Naruto’s Next Generations. The revelation of Sarada’s Mangekyo Sharingan in Boruto Two Blue Vortex chapter 20 could be game-changing for the fight against the Divine Tree Ryu, highlighting the potential of the series’ heroine as this brings many brilliant opportunities to explore new exciting battles. However, Sarada’s new power also points to a massive connection she has with another member of the Uchiha Clan.
Despite being Sasuke’s daughter, Sarada has been walking her own ninja path, one influenced more by Naruto than her own parents. But, the debut of Sarada’s Mangekyo Sharingan highlights how her ability is similar to an overpowered one from Naruto, teasing her incredible potential to be the strongest Uchiha in Naruto’s franchise.
Sarada’s Mangekyo Sharingan Holds a Massive Connection to Obito Uchiha
Both Uchiha Share Many Similarities
In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Sarada used her Mangekyō Sharingan for the first time, featuring an ability that appears to be a variant of Kamui used by Obito Uchiha, as instead of creating a dimensional portal, it works similar to a small black hole capable of attracting specific things, like Ryu’s Iron Sand. This highlights the many similarities between Sarada and Obito, as both characters had trouble controlling the sharingan as kids, both had eyesight problems, and both cared deeply about others and had a dear childhood friend who ed them and believed in their dream of becoming Hokage.
Additionally, both awaken their Mangekyo Sharingan under a unique circumstance, different from the rest of their clan. Obito gets the Mangekyo Sharingan, having originally only two tomoe, almost skipping the third one, and Sarada didn’t lose a loved one, awakening the power out of love instead of hatred like the rest of the Uchihas. Furthermore, both Obito and Sarada had a teammate who sacrificed an eye to protect them, Kakashi and Boruto.

Alright, I'm Convinced Naruto's New Mangekyo Sharingan Will Be the Most Powerful Yet
Boruto Two Blue Vortex chapter 20 revealed the technique of Sarada’s Mangekyo Sharingan, which could be the strongest in Naruto’s franchise so far.
That means that, even though it’s still unknown how it works, Sarada’s Mangekyo Sharingan ability was probably awakened for the same reason that Obito did as well, to escape their current realities. In Obito’s case, it was due to Rin’s death, and for Sarada, it was so that everything could go back to normal and Boruto wouldn’t have to be a renegade anymore.
Sarada’s Mangekyo Sharingan Might Be the Strongest Ever
Obito Was One of the Most Powerful Uchiha in Naruto’s Franchise
Although Boruto has created his own variant of Flying Thunder God jutsu, which isn’t as good as the one used by Minato, since he can’t mark his enemies directly, Sarada’s variant of Kamui does have the potential to sur the power of Obito Uchiha. Since Sarada is manipulating space-time, creating a black hole with gravitational pull to attract things, and if her ability is meant to be similar to Kamui, her other eye should have another variant of this power, having both long-range and close-range attacks.
Kamui was considered one of the strongest Mangekyo Sharingan abilities, since it gave him intangibility and could create his own dimension to transport anything, and even though the extent of Sarada’s black hole ability has yet to be confirmed, it could potentially be used with Susanoo, giving her infinite potential in battle.

We All Know Naruto Is Strong, But His Daughter Has What It Takes To Sur Him
Naruto’s daughter, Himawari, has inherited Kurama and a wealth of abilities making her easily one of the strongest characters in Boruto.
Manipulating gravitational force means that Sarada can either pull objects or push them away, which gives her versatility and might counter other space-time ninjutsu, which is an advantage when fighting the Divine Trees. Moreover, like Obito, who could use Mangekyo Sharingan without losing his eyesight due to Hashirama’s cells, Sarada could also train awakening the Byakugo Seal and use it to heal her eyes, eliminating the downside of the ability having the opportunity to use and develop her powers and becoming the strongest Mangekyo Sharingan in Naruto's franchise.
Sarada Could Achieve Obito’s Dream
Boruto’s Story Highlights the Contrast Between the New Generation and Naruto’s Characters
Sarada and Obito are both kind-hearted and emotional, who hate injustice and refuse to abandon others, having the ambitious dream of becoming Hokage one day. This creates a clear contrast between both characters, as Obito loses himself to hatred, deciding to destroy everything after Rin’s death, being involved in many terrible events in the series, like the Nine Tails attacking Konoha, the Uchiha Massacre, the creation of Akatsuki and Nagato's recruitment eventually leading start of the Fourth Shinobi World War. However, Sarada is currently using her powers to protect others in Boruto.
That means that Boruto’s story sets up Sarada to walk the path that Obito could have followed if he hadn’t given up her dream of becoming Hokage. This will showcase another parallel, like the one between Naruto and Obito, but will be significant as it will finally close the belief that Uchiha are prone to losing themselves in a cloud of their judgment due to their emotions, as Sarada will fight for what the Hokage stands for, demonstrating one of Naruto’s biggest themes that two people going through the same thing can still choose different paths.
Boruto Has Reversed the Roles of Many Characters of Naruto
Boruto and Sarada Have a Different Dynamic Than Naruto and Sasuke
After Boruto and Kawaki’s roles were reversed due to omnipotence, the way the story inverted the character dynamics from Naruto became more evident. Boruto, instead of being like his father, resembles Sasuke more, a child from a powerful family who lost everything due to a brother figure, becoming a renegade. At the same time, Kawaki, who had a difficult childhood, was the one who gained everything and wished to protect the village. However, they both follow different paths from Naruto and Sasuke, as Boruto doesn’t look for revenge and wants to save Kawaki, while he wants to destroy him instead.
This also applies to Sarada, who followed the same dream as Naruto and now tries to reach for Boruto to save him. This has also been inverted from Naruto and Sasuke’s story, as Sarada has lost reputation and position for defending Boruto while Naruto went on creating bonds during his journey to rescue Sasuke. Furthermore, Sarada doesn’t have to fight Boruto, but both can work together to recover his life.
“I wondered why you keep sticking up for a rogue ninja… who’s sought by his village for serious offenses, but I think I finally know. He’s the kind of guy who makes you always want to have his back, even if the rest of the world hates him, right?” Yodo, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #20
This desire to protect Boruto was necessary for Sarada to achieve his potential and is now the force that drives her to become stronger. Nevertheless, these parallelisms, yet still different identities between both franchises, prove that Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is taking the best aspects of its predecessor but adding its own twist, and Sarada’s using her Mangekyo Sharingan is not the best opportunity in the story to try to sur Naruto’s legacy.
