When it comes to one of the OG gang who has come back. Dustin Diamond's character was the loveable dork who hung out with the other main characters, and while he didn't fit in, fans enjoyed watching him.
While Screech tried to keep a positive attitude most of the time, it's true that he faced a lot of hardship during his days at Bayside High. From his friendships and girls to the everyday situations he found himself in, Screech was quite sad in many episodes of Saved By The Bell.
His Friends Made Fun Of Him
Fans don't love that Screech isn't in the reboot and it would have definitely been great to see this iconic character come back. If Screech was on the 2020 show, though, viewers would want to see him thriving instead of being laughed at all the time.
One of the saddest things about this character is the fact that his friends made fun of him on a regular basis. Screech was always the butt of a joke and his place on the show seemed to be for comedic relief only. High school is hard and being seen as the nerd that no one really likes is pretty rough.
Zack Manipulated Screech
In the first season episode, "Screech's Woman," Zack dressed like a girl and totally manipulated Screech. No one wants their so-called friend to pretend to be a date for them, so this was one of the saddest things that ever happened to Screech and one of the meanest pranks that Zack pulled during his time at Bayside High.
Zack always felt like he could do whatever he wanted with Screech, and that was strange, considering that Screech was supposedly part of the friend group.
The Gang Used Him
In the season one episode "The Gift," Screech got hit by lightning, and while this might be seen as a storyline that couldn't really take place, it was yet another example of how the gang used this character.
Since Screech could predict what would happen next, Slater and Zack got really excited and decided that Screech could help them out. This plot became pretty silly, as Screech couldn't see the future forever, and everyone got bummed out. Instead of acting like Screech was a pawn in their games, why didn't the other characters want to spend time with him and have fun?
Valley Students Took Screech's Hat That Violet Gave Him
In the season three episode "Check Your Mate," the mean high schoolers at Valley took Screech's hat that Violet had given him. Screech and Violet were a sweet pair and their relationship meant a lot to Screech since Violet liked him and didn't laugh at him.
It was super sad when he lost this beret, as it was not only a special present but he felt that it brought him good fortune, too. This was a particularly sad episode, as Screech was competing in a chess match, and it seemed like he could never show off his skills and enjoy himself without a disaster on the horizon.
He Embarrassed Himself In Front Of His Girlfriend's Parents
In the second season episode "Glee Club," Screech met Violet's parents, which is a big deal for anyone, but especially Screech, who hadn't experienced much of the social side of high school yet.
The saddest part of this storyline? Violet's mom and dad decided that she shouldn't be allowed to date Screech from that point on. This was unfair, as everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect, and her parents should have been more understanding.
When He Threw A Party, The Others Ruined His Mom's Statue
The season two episode, "House Party," was also a sad time for Screech. He threw a party, which could have been a great chance for the gang to finally see him as something other than a geek, but then they ruined his mom's statute. This led to them trying to solve the problem, and it was too much stress for Screech to deal with.
His Business Venture Was Based On Lies
The reboot has many references to the original and the new characters make just as many mistakes as the old gang did. For instance, in the fourth season's episode, "Screech's Spaghetti Sauce," Screech thought that he could make money by selling spaghetti sauce.
Unfortunately, he began dating a girl named Robin, and that's when the trouble started. Robin was not only a jerk who didn't really like Screech, but the sauce was a cookbook recipe and not Screech's grandmother's original creation.
He Loved Lisa, Who Didn't Feel The Same Way
Lisa was a beloved fashion-loving teen and Screech couldn't help but be hopelessly in love with her. Unfortunately, Lisa didn't return Screech's romantic dreams, and this was really devastating for him. He felt embarrassed about this on a regular basis, and it was clear that he wondered if anyone would ever love him or if he would feel as normal as the others in his friend group.
Even In College, Zack And Slater Didn't Respect Him
When Screech, Zack, and Slater went off to college in Saved By The Bell: The College Years, fans hoped that everyone would act a bit more mature (while still maintaining the beloved corny tone of the show, of course).
That wasn't the case, and in the episode "Rush Week," Zack and Slater wanted to a fraternity. They showed that they had no respect for Screech when they claimed that he would mess up this opportunity for them. This was no way to treat a friend.
His Friends Didn't His Birthday
In the fourth season's episode, "Screech's Birthday," Screech's friends didn't that it was his birthday, which is one of the saddest things that can happen to an awkward and insecure teenager.
This was a similar plot to the John Hughes classic Sixteen Candles, of course, and in this case, Screech's pals tried to make it up to him by having a party. But the party was in Mr. Belding's office, which seems like an odd place, and it didn't make up for leaving Screech out.
