In light of the recent news that Spider-Man, fans make #SaveSpiderMan trend worldwide. The public was shocked when news broke that Sony and Disney had a falling out when it comes to how to handle the web-slinging hero moving forward. Those who are opposed to the possibility of Tom Holland's Peter Parker no longer being a part of the MCU took to social media to make sure that their voices are heard when it comes to this tricky matter.
With Sony on the brink of rebooting their second Spider-Man franchise in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man series, coupled with the aftermath of its leaked email scandal in 2014, Sony's highest-grossing movie with more than $1 billion at the global box office. But what seemed to be a working team-up is now on the rocks, with Sony and Disney failing to agree with new to continue with this set-up.
The public was stunned upon learning that Far From Home may be the final Spider-Man movie creatively managed by Marvel Studios, with Holland's Peter Parker never to mingle with the remaining MCU heroes again. This is why it didn't take long for the hashtag #SaveSpiderMan to trend worldwide on Twitter. "Sony", "Spider-Man" and "Tom Holland" are all also in the top 10 worldwide list of trending topics on the same platform. According to SEMrush data provider, over 60,000 tweets used hashtags like #SaveSpidey or #SaveSpiderMan. Plus, the tweets amassed over one million likes and 380,000 retweets.
There might still be hope that Sony and Disney reach a deal to continue working together. But at this point, it seems like both parties are unwilling to budge when it comes to their stipulations. At the end of the day, if both studios decide to walk away from this partnership, it'll be a lose-lose situation as they basically scrap everything that they built with regard to the Spider-Man IP over the last few years. On top of that, there's also the complication over how to handle the character moving forward if he gets uprooted from the MCU. This iteration is so tightly ingrained in the franchise that he's even tipped to be the face of the universe as it goes through a transitional phase.
Obviously, while the public is not privy to the ongoing negations, this swift outcry from them can still ultimately affect the outcome of this ongoing debacle. ittedly, not everyone is thrilled with Marvel Studios' take on the superhero, but there's no denying that a majority of the fans love this iteration of the character. Sony can easily takeover creatively, since both director Jon Watts and Holland are supposedly returning for more Spider-Man movies, not to mention that it's already a well-established film series. They also proved that they're able to craft a great Spider-Man movie with the critically-acclaimed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. However, they're still risking turning off the fans if they simply uproot the character from the universe and plug it to their budding own.
