Although best war movies of all time, and Saving Private Ryan's success spreading so far beyond its intended audience is a testament to that fact.

Saving Private Ryan's ending still sticks with me all these years later, and that level of misty-eyed emotion translates strangely well into the emo music video in question. The band featured in the project isn't unique in the use of cinematic influence in their music videos, but they were especially prolific for it. As one of my favorite bands, I'd probably be a little biased in claiming they were one of the best at music videos, but it wouldn't be an unreasonable claim from an objective standpoint either.

Saving Private Ryan Was The Inspiration For My Chemical Romance's "The Ghost Of You" Video

MCR's second studio album was full of hits

New Jersey's My Chemical Romance took the world by storm with 2004's Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. "The Ghost of You" wasn't released as a single until the following year, but it came accompanied by a music video that was well worth the wait. As soon as I saw it, I was fully aware that the video was borrowing heavily from Saving Private Ryan. I always found the song to be something of an outlier on the album, so its video also being so unique felt very fitting to me.

My Chemical Romance's "The Ghost of View" music video has over 130 million views on YouTube.

Despite the disparate genres of the music video and the movie on which it's based, the coming together of worlds is strangely effective. Frontman Gerard Way's haunting delivery of lyrics like, "at the end of the world or the last thing I see, you are never coming home, never coming home," strongly brings to mind the emotions and mindset of what I imagine a solider might feel in the throes of battle. Regardless, I still can't quite wrap my head around the idea of bringing emo music and war movies together - and how well it worked.

"The Ghost Of You" Bears Only A ing Thematic Connection To Saving Private Ryan

Tom Hanks' war movie would have been impossible to recreate in under 4 minutes

Other than the movie's signature aesthetic and overarching themes, "The Ghost of You" borrows very little from Saving Private Ryan. This is understandable, though. The iconic war movie clock is at almost 3 hours long, while "The Ghost of You" doesn't even reach the four-minute mark. Trying to recreate the entire story in My Chemical Romance's music video just wouldn't have been possible in any kind of respectable way. However, I would argue that this makes the video's instant and easy connection to Saving Private Ryan even more impressive.
