community in Belfast. The series is based on a 2018 novel by Patrick Radden Keefe, which offers an in-depth look at the 30-year period where the conflict in Northern Ireland peaked, and the unresolved fallout that continued to plague both those involved and innocent bystanders in the years that followed. It's challenging, complex, and full of emotion, but it's also an incredibly human story.

But, decades later, it's difficult to understand the impact of these struggles. Through the eyes of Dolours Price, a pivotal member of the IRA, and Helen McConnville, the daughter of one of the 17 Disappeared, Say Nothing uncovers the lasting effects of the conflict and the actions of the IRA specifically.

Say Nothing Delivers Powerful Storytelling With Compelling Performances

Older Dolours and Brendan in Say Nothing

The strength of Say Nothing lies in both the story being told and the incredible actors bringing it to life. Lola Petticrew stars as the ambitious and rambunctious Dolours, a young woman who wasn't content to sit on the sidelines when the Troubles were underway. Having seen her family stand up for what they believed and fight for a free Ireland, Dolours chose to the IRA. With her confidence and aptitude for strategy, she rose through the ranks quickly.

As the central character of the story, Petticrew is vital and her performance never wavers.

Petticrew brings this young woman to life as she stands up against people who are powerful or more well-respected, displaying incredible confidence, bravery, and wit. As the central character of the story, Petticrew is vital and their performance never wavers. They are ed by a fantastic ing cast who all deliver excellent performances. However, the show's writing and narrative are also deserving of credit considering how effective the series is at retelling not just a true story, but one that is incredibly emotionally charged.

The series moves between the 2000s, after the ceasefire and decommissioning of the IRA, and the most active periods of the Troubles. Maxine Peake plays an older version of Dolours, recounting her exploits, and her relationship with other of the IRA, most notably Gerry Adams, who went on to become a high-ranking politician in Northern Ireland. Say Nothing is also careful to note that Gerry Adams has always denied any allegations of involvement with the IRA, or the proposed crimes, although Dolours' would suggest otherwise.

Sensitive Topics Are Explored In A Meaningful Way

Gerry Adams in Say Nothing

Say Nothing is more than a simple drama as it seeks to reveal some of the inner struggles experienced by those closest to the Troubles. Dolours' central role is poignant because of her position within the IRA and the direct harm she caused to others through her actions, but the show also reveals how this young woman was essentially brainwashed to act without ever taking a moment to understand why.

Say Nothing does a fantastic job of exploring these challenging subjects with a mixture of humor, emotion, and respect for the victims of these tragic events.

With this in mind, Say Nothing is seeking to expand on how these people were pushed to violence, but rather than push the cause forward, it became self-destructive. Amid violence and war, the soldiers of an unregulated, unofficial army began turning on themselves and folding due to the lack of any foundation. In the wake of its destruction, very few individuals were able to take advantage of the ill-gotten gains and make a meaningful life for themselves beyond their fight for freedom.

Silo season 2 expands the world of the series in huge ways, with plenty of backstabbing and scheming to keep characters on their toes.

While the cause may have been a benevolent one, or at least one that could be respected, the means to that end served almost no one. Many of the disillusioned found themselves empty-handed, betrayed, and lost, having given so much of their lives to an organization that took them for granted. Say Nothing does a fantastic job of exploring these challenging subjects with a mixture of humor, emotion, and respect for the victims of these tragic events.
