New information about the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Indigo Disk DLC has been shared by Nintendo, including its release date, new creatures, its price, and even story details. The new expansion is the second piece of additional content to be added to the Generation 9 games for Nintendo Switch, following the release of the Teal Mask DLC on September 13. Indigo Disk will take players to the Blueberry Academy, a sister school of Naranja Academy in Scarlet and Uva Academy in Violet. This new adventure will also introduce players to a series of returning creatures from previous generations, as well as new Pokémon in Gen 9.

This includes a duo of Legendary Paradox creatures, new evolutions to previously known Pokémon, and many others. Along with the new Pokémon to catch and maps to explore, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk DLC will also feature a brand-new story to unravel, involving the game’s Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, which is the base for the DLC pack’s name. Paldea will also be explorable, as new content will be added to the main region in Gen 9. This expansion is considered end-game content and, as a sequel to the previous DLC, both the base game and Teal Mask’s main stories should be concluded before jumping into The Indigo Disk.

Coming almost exactly three months after the launch of The Teal Mask, the release date for The Indigo Disk has been set for December 14, 2023. The announcement comes via the official Pokémon X (formerly Twitter). This follows a fairly lengthy wait in which the second part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero had no concrete release information aside from a Winter 2023 window.

While those who have already purchased The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero are already entitled to The Indigo Disk upon its release, anyone who has been waiting for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to be content complete may be interested in a bundle that includes both expansion chapters alongside the base game. Nintendo announced that bundle packs featuring Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC is available starting November 3, 2023.

Scarlet & Violet: Indigo Disk - New Pokémon

From left to right: Iron Crown, Terapagos, Archaludon, and Raging Bolt. All of them are new Pokémon in the Indigo Disk expansion for Scarlet and Violet.

The main new Pokémon in the Indigo Disk DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is known as Terapagos. This was the first new creature revealed for the expansion, and it will be the Legendary Pokémon associated with The Indigo Disk. Little is known about Terapagos so far. The creature will have two distinct forms. Its Normal Forme features a small turtle-like Pokémon with crystals hanging from various parts of its body. A second form, which is considered a special Terastal form, features Terapagos wearing a full shell, with each pentagon showcasing a different symbol for all 18 Pokémon Types. This second form also boasts a flowing tail.

It is implied in the base game’s various logs that a creature similar to Terapagos is somehow related to Paldea’s Terastal phenomenon, meaning that players may actually discover where the special crystal-like forms come from while exploring the Indigo Disk DLC in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Terapagos is, of course, one of the many new additions to the Gen 9 games for Nintendo Switch. A special Pokémon Presents livestream, held on the official Pokémon channel on YouTube on August 8, also showcased a series of new creatures that will be introduced with The Indigo Disk – all of which have some relation to Pokémon from previous generations.

As shown during the Pokémon Presents event, one of the new Pokémon in the Indigo Disk DLC for Scarlet and Violet is Archaludon. This new creature is an evolution to Gen 8’s Duraludon. As was later announced by The Pokémon Company, Archaludon is a new Steel- and Dragon-type Pokémon and is currently the only creature capable of learning the Electric-type move Electro Shot, which is seen being executed in the trailer that was shown during the event. While Duraludon has elements that make it resemble a skyscraper, Archaludon has a design that makes it seem like a bridge – especially when it gets down on all four of its legs.

While the Scarlet and Violet DLCs lacked Paradox Pokémon in earlier promotional materials, the new trailer that was showcased during the Pokémon Presents confirmed that there are at least two new Paradox creatures arriving with The Indigo Disk. The first of them is Raging Bolt, an ancient Paradox creature that resembles Gen 2’s Legendary beast Raikou. Raging Bolt’s exact typing is unknown, but it should retain the Electric-type for which Raikou is known. This creature boasts a long neck, like a Brontosaurus – previously, the game received Walking Wake, an ancient Paradox form for Suicune, which resembles a Theropod dinosaur, so the Jurassic-age theme may be the guiding line.

The second new Paradox Pokémon in the Indigo Disk DLC for Scarlet and Violet is called Iron Crown. This creature seems to be like the futuristic form of the Gen 5 Legendary Cobalion. As Cobalion’s original typing implies, Iron Crown should have at least a Steel-type, though its second type is still unknown. This creature is much like a mecha version of Cobalion, with various design elements resembling that of a robot. It has recurring elements with Iron Leaves, a futuristic Paradox Pokémon based on the Gen 5 Legendary Virizion, which is also part of the Swords of Justice.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: Indigo Disk - Story

The main story behind the Indigo Disk DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is an exchange program. Trainers will be invited to visit Blueberry Academy, a sister school to Naranja or Uva Academy, depending on the base game’s version. This institute is located on the high seas. In fact, most of Blueberry Academy is set underwater, where it boasts a large terrarium with four artificially created biomes. This school features new classes for Trainers to take, as well as a more dedicated approach to Trainer battles through the BB League.

This league features an exclusive Elite Four group, which will be challengeable in the Indigo Disk DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. While the focus is on battles, the expansion will also add a few extra mechanics, such as customization options for Blueberry Academy’s clubroom or even the Trainer’s Poké Ball throwing style. This expansion will also take part in Paldea, where Trainers will uncover the so-called Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, which lends its name to the first DLC pack for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
