Marvel Rivals has seen a steady stream of gameplay and cosmetic updates since its release in December 2024, but now, it seems like some fans think one character is getting more attention than all the others, at least when it comes to the number of skins being added. Marvel Rivals is a completely free-to-play hero shooter, with all gameplay elements, like maps, modes, and characters, being added for free. Most of the game's cosmetics are an additional purchase, and after the announcement of another pair of skins coming soon, fans are questioning the fairness of the game's skin economy.

In a Reddit post by BoltexGaming, there is quite a bit of debate about whether Scarlet Witch has too many skins, compared to the rest of the game's roster. Adam Warlock and Scarlet Witch will be getting new "Immortal" skins on May 23. The skins are a part of the game's "Immortal Dragon" collection, and while there is plenty of praise being directed at the quality of the two skins, there's an almost equal amount of criticism being directed at Scarlet Witch getting yet another skin, bringing her total to seven (including her default skin).

Cool Design, Easy To Play, And Recognizable

In Marvel Rivals, Scarlet Witch is one of the easiest characters in the game to play. Her primary fire auto-locks onto enemies, she has a quick disappearing mobility tool, and she has an ultimate that doesn't require targeting. Adding to her popularity, she is one of the few characters that has gotten a free skin, as well as a legendary skin, which was based on her appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Her slick design and easy game plan (especially as a counter to flyers) have made her a popular pick.

Marvel Rivals Now Allows You To Gift Skins: Here's How To Do It

Marvel Rivals allows players to purchase and gift character skins to their friends, but the process is very specific for giving away unique costumes.

Marvel Rivals, being based on such a large IP as Marvel, has brought a lot of players to the hero shooter genre for the first time. Scarlet Witch had a huge presence in the MCU as well, so when combined with her ease of use and recognizable design, she always seems to be one of the most played characters in the game, despite most fans agreeing she isn't particularly strong, especially with an ultimate designed to fail, according to some players.

Our Take: Other Characters Have More Skins Than Scarlet Witch

But There Are Some That Have Barely Had Any Cosmetic

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 costume

The fan debate on whether Scarlet Witch has too many skins seems to be a knee-jerk reaction. Spider-Man actually has the most skins in the game, currently, and some characters have barely gotten any new skins since the game's release. Jeff the Land Shark and Storm are two characters that could use some love, and both of them have been fairly popular characters throughout the lifespan of Marvel Rivals so far, but they have lower pick rates than Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, and others, so it makes sense for NetEase Games to make another skin for Wanda.

Fan-favorite skins from MCU films, like zombie Doctor Strange from Multiverse of Madness, or skins from other popular media, like Spider-Man's costume from the PlayStation 5 game, seem to be taking priority. Every character has at least two alternate skins at this point, and the attention to the popular characters is understandable from a monetization point of view, but it is definitely frustrating for a player's personal favorite not to get as much spotlight. With Marvel Rivals as popular as it is, hopefully, other characters will get their due.
