Spoilers for TVA (2024) #4 ahead!Rejoice, fans of the Scarlet Witch, as Marvel has just confirmed a major fan theory regarding the fate of one of the MCU's most controversial characters! While speculation and certainty has been strong, TVA (2024) #4 marks Marvel's official confirmation that the MCU version of Wanda Maximoff indeed lives on.
In TVA #4 – by Katharyn Blair, Pere Pérez, and Guru e-FX – the assembled TVA team continues investigating the assault on Agent Mobius. After revealing that strange dreams have been drawing her deeper into the TVA, Gwen Stacy sneaks out on her own to discover a version of the Scarlet Witch imprisoned in a back room.
"This one looks like one who is supposed to be dead. Squished by a mountain after a showdown with Doctor Strange," Gwen muses, confirming fan theory that yes, this is indeed the MCU version of Wanda Maximoff.

The Scarlet Witch has had a rocky road throughout the MCU, with her great power matched only by her great tragedy. From the death of her brother, Quicksilver, in Avengers: Age of Ultron, to the destruction of her lover, Vision, in Avengers: Infinity War, Wanda's losses have only been compounded by the trauma inflicted upon her by Agatha Harkness in WandaVision. This set her up to be the ultimate villain of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, before Wanda redeemed herself through sacrifice by destroying the evil Darkhold at apparently the cost of her own life.

Marvel Is Quietly Paving the Way For a MCU Plot Twist With Help From the Scarlet Witch
Though the comics and MCU typically stay separate from one another, this new comic revelation may set up the Scarlet Witch’s MCU return.
Wanda's fate was brought into question, however, when the final page of TVA #3 showed a woman in the Scarlet Witch's MCU costume sealed away within the TVA. While artist Pere Pérez confirmed online that this was indeed intended to be the MCU variant of the Scarlet Witch, TVA #4 acts as explicit, in-universe confirmation that these characters are one and the same. This has major implications for the series going ahead, as well as for the MCU as a whole, since Wanda's power has literally shaped and warped the MCU's reality on numerous occasions.
Marvel's TVA Comic Is Now Explicitly Set In The MCU, Reaffirming Fan Speculation
The Lore Implications For Marvel's Next Phase Are Massive
While the TVA comic has flirted with the notion that it takes place in the MCU via the presence of prominent Loki characters like Sylvie and Agent Mobius, it was uncertain whether these were the MCU versions or comic book counterparts with different histories. With the MCU Wanda's presence now confirmed, this tacitly confirms that the Sylvie and Mobius in TVA are their MCU versions. This is significant, as one of the overarching plot elements in TVA is the ultimate fate of what is now confirmed to be the MCU's Loki, who vanished at the end of Loki's second season.
Marvel's "phases" of the MCU continue to grow more complex, as it now seems that TVA is the official comic for catching up on events happening offscreen. Nonetheless, Elizabeth Olson's version of the Scarlet Witch has been exceedingly popular, and it's good to see that Marvel isn't done with her yet. The Scarlet Witch is one of the MCU's deadliest and most complex characters, and this new development confirms that she's ready for a comeback – but whether the TVA will be able to handle her remains unknown.
