Scarlet Witch Embraces Lovecraftian Horror with Her Deadliest Form Yet

Wanda and Mor-I-Dun Make a Fascinating (and Terrifying) Pair

While the costume reveal isn't made until the final page of issue 2, the potential for what horrors lie in store puts the current run of Scarlet Witch on track to be her most terrifying saga yet. Their fight in the Land of the Dead shows just how powerful these two are, as they manage to counter each other at the highest level of magic. Now, Scarlet Witch has become a new form of the terrifying eldritch sorcerer and Devourer of Worlds.

With their abilities combined into one form that oozes with H.P. Lovecraft's influence, this is undeniably Scarlet Witch at her most powerful yet. Not only is she returning to the dark side of magic, but her powers are now combined with Mor-I-Dun's, an Eldritch Horror that was banished to the realm of the dead to prevent his chaos from spreading. Now he's free and in the body of one of the strongest magic s in Marvel canon, putting the entire universe at risk as the two make their way back to New York City.

Scarlet Witch's New Look Brings Back Her Very First Costume

Wanda Goes from Red to Green

Scarlet Witch's Green Costume on the Cover of X-Men #4

What's fascinating about Scarlet Witch's new Cthulhu-like look is where Mor-I-Dun takes inspiration for the outfit. As the two are battling, Scarlet Witch's iconic red outfit shifts to green after she es through him, which is used as the base for her possession. This is a direct callback to Scarlet Witch's first cover appearance in X-Men #4 when her costume was colored green as she stood with the Brotherhood of Mutants. In a way, this is fitting for this new rendition of Scarlet Witch as it references her evil days with her father, Magneto, as a member of the Brotherhood, before she switched sides to become a hero.

With Mor-I-Dun in full control of Scarlet Witch's evil side, there's no telling what lies in store for the Marvel Universe in the coming issues of her latest series. As the preview for Scarlet Witch #3 on the final page hints that "the Devourer rises," chaos is undeniably in the cards as New York City deals with a threat of cosmic proportions. Overall, Scarlet Witch's new Cthulhu costume is a perfect hint at the terrors to come in what could be her deadliest arc yet.
