Marvel recently announced that the new Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver series is slated for a February release. It will be penned by Scarlet Witch writer Steve Orlando, featuring art from Lorenzo Tammetta and covers from Russell Dauterman. The series promises both conflict and reunion for the Maximoff siblings following Wanda's solo adventures in her thrilling Scarlet Witch series and Pietro's tenure as a member of Captain America’s Uncanny Avengers. A letter from their deceased father-figure, Magneto, puts the pair at odds, however, and they must find their way back to each other to face down a new enemy.

  • The Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver have been heroes, friends, family heads and occasionally villains, but, above all, they are twins who look out for each other. So when Wanda receives a letter from the recently deceased Magneto that would upset Pietro, she burns the letter before her brother can read it. But her choice drives them apart at the worst possible time: a new threat heralded by the Wizard—with a horrifying eldritch upgrade—is coming for their heads, and if they can’t find a way to repair their damaged bond, it will cost them their lives.

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch Are Marvel’s Most Iconic Sibling Duo

Magneto Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch

For 60 years, Pietro and Wanda have been a force to be reckoned with. They’ve broken the world and saved it more than once with Scarlet Witch's magical prowess and Quicksilver's incredible speed. Through it all, they’ve had an unbreakable (and at times codependent) bond. Their introduction back in X-Men #4 by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Paul Reinman set them up as part of the villainous Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, after the group’s leader, Magneto, saved their lives. But they’re hardly defined by their early misguided deeds and both went on to become Avengers and heroes, playing crucial roles in fighting enemies like Kang the Conquerer.

Their presence in each other’s lives hasn’t diminished over the decades. Recent times have seen Wanda branch out on her own, handling metaphysical and magical problems of all shapes and sizes, while her brother works to combat Orchis, Captain Krakoa, and others. Nothing separates them for long, although the new Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver series is poised to test their skills, the strength of their bond, and offer an opportunity to explore some of their other connections. Whether that helps or hinders their ability to combat the Wizard remains to be seen, but nothing seems capable of keeping the twins down for good.

The Extended Maximoff Family Tree Makes a Return

Quicksilver in Scarlet Witch solo series

Alongside a new look at Wanda and Pietro’s relationship, Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver aims to show the other branches of the Maximoff tree. Quicksilver rarely has the opportunity to interact with his daughter, Luna, who spends most of her time with the Inhuman side of her family, and even fewer chances to spend time with his twin nephews, Tommy Shepherd and Billy Kaplan-Altman. The anniversary series is the perfect opportunity to dip into the dynamic between Wanda, Pietro, and the younger generation of the Maximoff clan.

Given the tie-in with Magneto, it also sets the stage for a reunion with their (former) sister, Lorna Dane. Polaris and Quicksilver left things in a rough spot after his betrayal in All New X-Factor. However, Lorna paid the Last Door a visit and remains on good with Wanda as of Scarlet Witch #3 by Steve Orlando, Sara Pichelli, Isabel D'Amico, and Matt Wilson. There’s a wealth of other possible appearances with such a powerful family, too, with little other opportunity to explore them. Wanda and Pietro may need all the they can get as they face the Wizard. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are one of the Marvel Universe’s most dynamic duos, and their bond through 60 years of trials and tribulations is worthy of celebration.

Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #1 will be available from Marvel Comics on February 14, 2024.
