Marvel Studios poorly utilized Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Since then, her fate has been in limbo after the Sam Raimi-directed flick made it seem as though Scarlet Witch is now dead. Despite her supposed importance in MCU's current storytelling, Marvel Studios still hasn't given the character her due.
The Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and the Vision-centric series starring Paul Bettany, reportedly titled, Vision Quest. While both projects could feature the return of the Scarlet Witch, she should no longer play a ing character in any endeavor until she gets her own solo narrative. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it's in the cards for her in the foreseeable future with Marvel Studios still mum about her possible return to the MCU.
Wanda Was Supposed To Be Avengers 5’s Villain (& Should've Been)
Scarlet Witch was Avengers: The Kang Dynasty's villain originally. Writer Michael Waldron was able to convince Marvel Studios to scrap their original plan and pit her against Doctor Strange instead in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It was clear how much of a greater potential Wanda has in of her powers and her ability to take down other heroes with relative ease from her brief arc in Doctor Strange 2. The MCU should have stuck with its original plan, putting Wanda at the center of the franchise's current storytelling. Now that her villainous turn has already happened, Marvel Studios have no choice but to kickstart her redemption which would have been better had it been saved to the end of the Multiverse Saga.
The MCU Is Wasting Scarlet Witch
Granted, it was interesting to see the Scarlet Witch go up against Doctor Strange considering that they are the most prominent magic wielders in the MCU. However, there was so much more potential in their conflict, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ultimately wasted it. For starters, the pair barely had any sorcery showdown. Secondly, the decision to continue Wanda's story in a movie where she isn't the primary character after WandaVision was a massive misstep. Instead, Marvel Studios should have fleshed out the character via another season of her own show which could have seen her further exploring the Darkhold. That would have been a great setup for her motivations in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
For now, it's difficult to say what Scarlet Witch's future in the MCU is. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' ending, there's a hope that when she returns from her supposed death, she will begin her redemption arc, but there's no guarantee that this will happen. Whatever the case may be, Marvel Studios needs to bring her back into the franchise not just to utilize her, but also to do it properly without shortchanging the character again.
