The characters of Schitt’s Creek are a ragtag mix of incredibly lovable and easily forgettable. The scope of the series has changed from surviving in a small town to living in a small town and as the show progresses, the characters have evolved along with it.
Given that season 6 is the final season, it is time to say goodbye to the folks that have been making us laugh and cry since 2015. While we may miss the show, that doesn’t mean we will miss everyone who has made the show what it was. Some characters we won’t miss because they weren’t great or because they just weren’t memorable enough.
Won’t: Johnny
Without Johnny Rose, patriarch of the Rose family, the show wouldn’t exist, let alone survive. That being said, when other, better storylines are popping up, it is easy to forget that Johnny is a main character in the show. He has had the same solo storyline over and over with his business dealings and at some point, the repetitiveness has become a stain on the show.
Johnny has some amazing scenes throughout the series, but the scope of the show has shifted drastically from the first season. When thinking back on the family, Johnny will be missed, but solo, he can be forgotten without a second thought.
Will: Ted
Ted’s arc in the show, spending most of it being Alexis’s emotional crutch, was endearing to many fans. From his accidental nude live stream to his heartwarming conversation with David in season 5, he has been through a rollercoaster of emotion. With the will they-won’t they off the table, for the time being, Ted is looking to be a major part of the final season.
He is going to be ed and missed by fans for his big heart. Even when it seemed like he and Alexis were over with, we all knew that Ted was the perfect fit. It only took 2 broken engagements for Alexis to figure it out.
Won’t: Twyla
Twyla Sands is a great character and one that should be ed. She has appeared in over 50 episodes, yet she easily flies under the radar. This hurts even more when you consider that she is played by the daughter and sister of Eugene and Dan Levy. All of her storylines revolve mostly around Alexis or have a ing reference to some past event that doesn’t get explored.
While she is a fun character when she shows up, she isn’t all that memorable to die-hard Schitters or casual fans. It’d be nice to see more of her in season 6, but it’s more likely we’ll have the same old story with her.
Will: Stevie
Stevie Budd was a breakout character from the start of Schitt’s Creek. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, nor did she cool it with her sarcasm toward the Rose family. As she has grown as a character and she has arguably added more to the show than any other non-Rose family person. This was reflected by her literal spotlight moment in the season 5 finale.
She is a well written, grounded character in a world full of craziness, so it makes sense that she would be a memorable character. Fans will walk away from the show with fond, albeit sarcastic, memories of Stevie.
Won’t: Bob
Bob Currie as a character feels unnecessary as a recurring part. He did play a crucial part in getting Johnny back on his feet, but after that, his only appearances have been minimal at best. It’s unfair to say that he isn’t important, but it is easy to call the character useless to the scenes he has recently been in.
The character isn’t bad or poorly written, just incredibly underused when he is around if he is around. He fits the small-town man role to the letter, but that isn’t great when looking for outstanding characters. Bob will be easily forgotten after the end of the show, probably only to show up in hard Schitt’s Creek trivia questions.
Will: Patrick
Since his introduction in season 3, Patrick has been a focused character for the Rose family, especially David. From the founding of Rose Apothecary to the mountainside proposal, the character has had many big moments that have left people talking about him while the show is still going.
Noah Reid’s rendition of “Simply the Best” as Patrick is one of the two songs released from the series, which brings his notability much higher than most side characters. His portrayal as a positive queer character, and one that has had several very touching emotional moments, is something that will be talked about long after the show is over, keeping Patrick well missed.
Won’t: Roland
Roland is an interesting character for the show. He is aloof in all the wrong ways, promoting an ideal backwoods caricature of small-town living. The problem with his character is the opposite of Bob’s in that the show has spent too much time focusing on him.
Jocelyn, his better half, is a much better character and should have been more centralized to the plot of several episodes, but it was Roland who got the airtime. While the show purposefully veers away from the extremely harmful content that can be seen with many characters like Roland, he toes that line a little too close to be memorable.
Will: Alexis
We’re all a little bit Alexis and will remain that way for a while after the show ends. The character growth and fantastic one-liners make her one of the most memorable characters on the show. While we only hear of the many adventures Alexis has been on in her shady past, her present is just as eventful and enjoyable to watch.
Her failures and successes are not only enjoyable to watch, but easy to learn from as well. The brother-sister relationship between Alexis and David continues to be one of the most enjoyable features of the show. One of the most quoted lines of the show is Alexis’ “Ew, David” and that speaks to just how memorable her character is.
Won’t: Moira
The matriarch of the Rose family, Moira is an interesting character, but she hasn’t had as much of an impact on fans as the other three have. The character is at her best when she is with her kids, especially with the cheese folding scene, but when she is off on her own storylines, she doesn’t hold as much weight.
Catherine O’Hara is a great performer and she brings a lot of enjoyment to the role, but outside of her interesting accent, constantly changing wigs, and outfits, the character doesn’t come across as memorable in the end. We will miss Catherine, just not Moira.
Will: David
The series went from mostly focusing on Johnny to Alexis and David over its first 5 seasons. With Dan Levy’s great writing on the show, it makes sense that his character would be the center of most of the major plot points and it works. David is a lovable and wildly realistic character that hasn’t been seen on television before.
David has been a driving force for every member of the Rose family, and even the people around him like Patrick and Ted. He has the most memorable scenes and is involved in almost every quotable line in the series. We’re going to be sad to not have more David in our lives once the show ends.
